“Windows Home Server Vail CTP4″ Windows Home Server v2 (build 7360) (Community Technology Preview Release 4) that recently leaked to the Web and is available for free download on Torrent Networks. According to the description by Microsoft, “Vail” is the next generation version of Windows Home Server.
For who doesn’t know about Windows Home Server, the product is a server operating system by Microsoft and available preinstalled on machines from various OEMs. The Community Technology Preview was distributed to some Beta testers and now it has found its way on Torrent.
Actually, the new version of WHS is based on a Windows Server 2008 R2, which means that its installation will require a processor with support for 64-bit instructions. In fact, many people use as home servers, old computers, which are often used older Intel or AMD processors without 64-bit instructions.
Vail provides simple file sharing, remote access, home computer backup, expandable storage through Drive Extender, and media streaming both inside and outside the home. Vail also contains an application catalog and product-wide extensibility model so that new services such as anti-virus, online sharing, and home automation can be seamlessly and easily added to the solution.
Guys who downloaded and tested it said that there is an inbuilt app store in Vail that will allow for add-ins, perhaps like these, but said the store didn’t appear to be functional yet.
