Amazon.com is one of the largest and popular shopping site on web. Unfortunately, it is hit by online pirates. A Firefox addon called “Pirates of Amazon” makes it possible to shop at Amazon and to without spending a penny.
Let it be any Music CD, Software bundle or Movies, Instead, on Amazon product pages the add-on integrates links to ‘free’ copies on The Pirate Bay.
What it does?
It gulps data from the webpage of Amazon about what you are finding to buy online. Then, it searches for the similar product if available for free and flashes link as “Download 4 Free” This link will you take you to the similar product page which available for free download on PirateBay Networks.
It works for CDs, DVDs, games, books and basically all products that can be converted to a digital format.
On their homepage it is clearly stated that they are in no affiliated to Piratebay and do not host or even link to any illegal content, they write. “This artistic project addresses the topic of current media distribution models vs. current culture and technical possibilities.”
A similar add-on is available for IMDB users from Userscripts.org that cross references movie titles with torrent sites to find copies of films online. Despite its clear lean toward piracy, I’d argue that one of its more useful features it is to track down subtitle files, which can provide translations in smaller countries where the content might be legally available but not localized.
