Google Buzz: Social Media Timeline inside Gmail
Google Buzz is another Social Media tool integrated right into your Gmail account. It can be used to share status updates, links, photos and media with your friends. Just like Orkut, Facebook or Twitter where you have a timeline of updates from your friends and comment on it. But more, you can interlink your Blog RSS, Twitter and many more social accounts on Buzz!
Don’t know why Google selected this word for its social media but it’s creating buzz since it’s launch unlike Google Wave (which I didn’t login after getting an invite). This is built directly into the Gmail account, you can access it from where you check inbox. Also, doesn’t need invites to enter; However it is not available to all Gmail account holder but it is slowly rolled out to all public.
When it is activated on your Gmail account, it automatically follows your buddies connected on Gmail and other Google services. Buzz integrates directly with your Gmail inbox, so updates and comments appear along side your e-mails in real time. This reduces effort to check other social services when you get everything at same place.
Write anything you want to share (whether publicly or Private). Possible to add any interesting webpage link you found or a photo.
Support for @ replies just like twitter which can send buzz to a specific user. Also supports Autcomplete and gives suggestions of the friends connected on Buzz to send reply.
Connect your social networks to Google Buzz and share updates of those services on Google Buzz! Like, you can add Digg, Youtube, Blogger or Flickr accounts to share on Buzz streamline.
Post your comments on any update shared on Buzz from your friends in nested format. I liked the “Like” feature which I miss on Orkut.
Some other features are layering Google Maps with Buzz. You can also associate pictures with buzz within Google Maps. Posts can be geotagged, and the location-aware features really comes to life when you post from a mobile with GPS inside.
That’s all basic an important things about newly introduced Google Buzz and there is more to come and much to discover about it. Try playing around and you will find it better. It will be a big hit (I really feel so) and there is more to come about which we will keep you updated like someday, Google Buzz! too will have some extensions or applications support.
If you found it useful, take out time to follow us on Buzz and share this post on Buzz!
