The results of the first security test Microsoft Security Essentials has been conducted by the independent security consultant AV-Test. And unlike what you might expect, the results are quite encouraging for the Microsoft product.

The CEO of AVG Technologies said :

It just doesn’t give you the protection that you need, people aren’t worried about antivirus anymore. Most of it is just noise. Security Essentials will help, especially in emerging markets. But it’s centered around viruses, which the bad guys aren’t really pushing anymore.

In the test, Microsoft Security Essentials detected and removed all the 3200 viruses, trojans and worms including some threats which were not detected even by a paid Antivirus program. Also, it passed the False Positive test in which a legitimate software is detected as Virus by an Antivirus program.

Microsoft Security Essentials was available for download on Microsoft’s official site for roughly 24 hours as they had fill up quota of 75,000 download only. But, not to worry you can always download Microsoft Security Essentials from Direct links.
