Nokia will offer Maps and Navigation services for free
Nokia will offer free navigation services on their phones worldwide, following a strategy similar to Google last year. Nokia has been charging so far by browsing service covering over 180 countries with its Ovi maps, and is expected to be over 20 million telephones installed which can access the service. These services will be now offered worldwide, and remember, for free.
Here, I would like to quote an advantage that Nokia Maps has, that it is usable without being connected to a data connection, because they may be stored in the terminal, unlike Google. Among the Services that we can find the maps themselves stand out areupdates, the weather, the car and pedestrian navigation, event guides, Michelin guides and the Lonely Planet.
Among the many possibilities is missing a feature like Google Street View, but no need to worry, because Nokia itself has informed us that they are working on a similar solution that will appear this year, we are awaiting for more information. Other features included, we can see in this video from Nokia:
From March 2010, all Nokia phones with GPS will come with the new version of Ovi Maps installed, in addition to the localized maps. To name the handsets, it can be found in Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, e55, e72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and Nokia’s new X6.
