Orkut, most popular social networking site of India and Brazil was secretly preparing the new design for its homepage. Redesign claims to enrich user experience, faster photo uploads, video chat and the updates timeline similar to facebook.
I think Inclusion of activity and updates timeline on user profile was the real need. Now, you will no more need to browse communities for new events and discussions and you get nearly everything about what your friends are doing in the activity stream so, just comment there itself.
The overall page has been designed neatly with a view to reduce clicks and get the maximum out of Live Feed activity on your Homepage itself. Moving between tabs is now improved giving it a smooth effect unlike older version of orkut. In addition to it, you get a selection of 6 new colors on new design to choose from.
The saddest part of this is that Not all Orkut profiles have been given this privilege to move in a newer version. Just as they did with earlier interface update, the changes will take time. But, if you cannot wait more and want to head on new version then you need an invitation after which a link saying newer version will appear on header tab of orkut homepage.
How to get invitation for new Orkut design? [Update]
- Join Poppy and Shashi on the official community (www.orkut.co.in/neworkut) for insights into the new version of orkut and participate in one of the many activities that will be taking place there. Be sure to check back often as the owners will be regularly announcing new ways to get access.
- Find a friend who’s already using the new version of orkut and ask for an invite. You can see who’s already gotten access via your activity stream or by this
icon that will appear on your friends’ profile pages, next to their names.
- Retweet any of our article and leave the twitter status link in comment. We will contact then personally and send new orkut invites instantly.
At the moment, I am also trying to get invited but if your profile already upgraded to new version, please tell us how did you find it?

Tried Orkut new Design and must say its much faster than the previous one.
Though sad part is like Google wave, they have released it for few people …
and without every one in my friend list have commenting power on the status update its useless for me now
