Sony PS3 Slim Details : Expected Thin version of Playstation 3
As said earlier, Sony has introduced a lightweight version of the PlayStation 3 called Sony Ps3 Slim in GamesCom 2009, a new video game trade show being held in the German city of Cologne.
The PS3 Slim will come with 120 GB hard drive, but reducing its size by 33%, weight by 36% (5 to 3.2 kilograms) and its consumption by 34%. Consequently, it will reduce its noise level when in operation. We are still not sure about the name Sony Ps3 Slim but it is confirm that new thinner and cheaper Ps3 is going to come.

What are technical differences between the old and the new model?
Slim and the PS3 remains basically the same hardware (reader Blu-ray, HDMI output, two USB ports, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), but includes a software easier due to two major absences: the compatibility with games of PlayStation 2 and the possibility of installing Linux. In addition, the PS3 Slim will not be able to stay upright by itself, but you need an accessory stand to be purchased separately.

It will cost $299.99 which is less than 100$ than 80GB PS 3 and has been confirmed and will hit retail shelves sometime in September. To pre-order visit Sears or Kmart.

I just got my PS3 Slim yesterday and have been using it for games and blu-ray movies almost the entire time since. I am very impressed with this smaller version of my favorite console system. I already have the first generation PS3 that was released on launch day back a few years ago. Yes, my only biggest gripe about the PS3 slim (shared by many people) is that it’s not backwards compatible with PS2. Also, why couldn’t Sony just throw in an HDMI cable along with it (I know you could get it for less than ten bucks nowadays, but this is more about convenience). The most impressive thing about the PS3 slim is that it is really quiet. This is an obvious indication that the hardware is much more powerful now in this latest incarnation. For the price that is almost similar to buying a Sony stand-alone blu-ray player, I couldn’t recommend this more.
