VLC Media Player 1.1 adds support for Extensions
This weekend, Jean-Philippe André, a developer of VLC, has announced that the next version, 1.1 is added support for Firefox-style extensions, providing additional functionality to the program.
The difference of the extensions with modules that will supports VLC language. While the modules are written in C++ and must be compiled, the extensions are written in Lua, a simple, lightweight object-oriented language, that will help the creation and development of the extensions. This way, VLC is expected to increase its functionality with, for example- artist information on Wikipedia, Media Meta Data fetching from Last.fm, the search for letters, etc..
Anyway, version 1.1 is not expected until late, especially given what it took to launch version 1.0. Still, if you want to try and build extensions, you can download the nightly builds unstable development versions.
