Widgetbucks’ widgets aren’t paying enough

Widgetbucks‘ tag-line says that their ads doesn’t sucks but we publishers are not getting paid enough from their network. Are you a publisher of Widgetbucks? then, you may also had faced the same problem as discussed below.

For last few months, I have been using Widgetbucks’ widgets on my blog (musicalblast.blogspot.com). When this ad-network was launched, it paid it’s publishers fairly but I don’t know what happened to them now?

From the day of launch of international CPM ads, earnings from the network are as low as hell. For 21,257 page impressions, click rate was 0.03% in widgets’ tab while CPM ads got 27,246 page impressions and total earnings were 2.44$ only. Are these earnings fair? Their referral program is also not that attractive- They only pay 10% of the total earnings of the referred publisher. That means, if that publisher makes another 25$ to reach minimum payout then you get 2.5$

Moreover, Widgetbucks‘ units takes comparatively more time to load on webpage and animation doesn’t run on IE6 or any browser with disabled javascript. So, I’ve decided to replace widgetbucks’ units with Adbrite or Tyroo as they are performing better on the same blog.

If you are also facing such problems, Make sure you reach minimum payout i.e. 50$ and then you can replace then if you wish.

Hi Rohit, Dean from WidgetBucks here. i’m curious to know what category you were displaying in your blog. If it was something like Movies, we tend to see that return at a very low rate, whereas electronics (HDTVs, iPods, etc.) certainly payout higher. As for the CPM rate, it certainly varies with advertisers paying virtually $0 for SE Asia traffic, but higher for UK and Germany traffic. India traffic is earning about $.10 CPM. Keep in mind that we implemented the CPM payout for non-U.S. and Canada traffic as a solution to the alternative: advertisers who were willing to pay NOTHING on a PPC basis for the same traffic. We’re working on additional solutions in the coming weeks and quarter – so stay tuned. Cheers.

    @ Dean Jutilla
Yes, the category used for displaying ads on the blog is “Music & Movies” so, that’s fine. I will surely try widgetbucks on this blog(TheWebdale.com) as this blog falls in different category, hope, it gives me good results.

If you want to cut out the CPM ads I’ve scripted together a (half-baked) method of limiting them based on browser language settings. The script is here.

It won’t eliminate them entirely (i.e. if people have “en-us” set without knowing it, like me – despite being the UK) but it certainly reduces it. After that you just need to work on getting the click rate on the widgets up!

Nice blog btw and nice design.

Thanks for the suggestion but Does this trick violates the ad-network policy?

Rohit: Not to my knowledge. It doesn’t change anything with the display of ads, simply switching them on/off depending on the visitors settings.

I’ve posted the link to the WidgetBucks blog and it was approved – so that’s (sort of) approval of the technique.
