Corrupted files, disk failure, accidental deletion, power shortages, there are just so many ways to lose your favorite files. Be it pictures, videos, documents, or anything.

What if I told you that there is a way to recover these lost files? There is free data recovery software which is dedicated to this purpose and EaseUS Recovery Wizard is one of them.

This article will explain how to utilize this program and recover your lost files with it.

Installation and Setup

Installing EaseUS Recovery Wizard is so easy and fast that I didn’t even had time to screenshot the installation screen.

All you have to do is go to the homepage, download the program by clicking on “Free Download” and double click on it to install it.

The rest of the installation is self-explanatory. That’s it! You’re all set up and ready to start recovering.

Scan for Deleted/Lost Data

Upon starting up the program, you will have to pick a drive or a specified file location). After left clicking on the drive of your choice, just click on “Scan”.

The program will then scan the drive two times. The first one is quick scan, and the second a deep scan.

The quick scan should be almost instantaneous, but won’t detect a lot of files. Deep scanning is extremely effective in detecting deleted and corrupted files, but takes a lot of time to finish. As a rule of thumb, a bigger drive will take a longer time to scan.

Data Recovery

After finding your lost file just left click on it and select “Recover”. If recovery is not possible, then wait until deep scanning finishes.

You’re able to preview images either by double-clicking on them or by left clicking on them and selecting “Preview” on the right side of the program.

As a side note, if you’re only interested in photo recovery, then you can download the specialized photo recovery counterpart of EaseUS by clicking on the link above.

Do keep in mind that data restoration is not something easy and doesn’t always work. Other than that, the free version of EaseUS Recovery Wizard only allows you to recover 500 Megabytes of data. Even though the website mentions 2 Gigabytes.

If you want to restore more than that, then you will have to upgrade into one of the pro versions.

They feature unlimited data recovery, technical support, and the most expensive version also features a bootable OS.

A bootable OS allows you to restore deleted files even if you can’t boot up to Windows. That is useful in the case that a power outage corrupted your Windows directory.

How it Works

Data recovery might seem like magic. But, really, it all comes down to technical knowledge. Science, if you’d like to say so.

When you delete a file from the recycle bin, Windows doesn’t really delete it. It only deletes the path which provides access to that file. The pieces of data that make the file whole are still on the drive.

After that, space which was taken by that file will be marked as free and the next file to be written on your drive will replace the previously deleted file.

Which means that a file will truly be gone from the drive when another one replaces it. However, due to the way that Drives work, it might be that only a part of it will get replaced.

That is why some files are not recoverable even when you can see them by using recovery programs. It’s because only a part of them was left.

Recovery programs are only looking for the pieces of data which make a file whole and provide a new path for them, which is what makes them accessible once again.

Gmail, the email service provided by Google, is one of the email servers with a huge number of active email users. In fact, people have been using Gmail for a long time as a means of information exchange. The biggest advantage to Google users is that they can log in to other services of Google (such as YouTube, Orkut, Google+, and more) with their Gmail login credentials.

I do not recommend using Gmail only for exchanging information through emails, as plenty of other email service providers are also available, including, Yahoo Mail, Rediffmail, and Outlook.com (the online version of the most preferred desktop client from Microsoft). However, people prefer using Gmail because of its ease of use. In fact, Gmail is a secure email service provided free of cost by Google, which users can use both as a secure webmail and via IMAP4 or POP3 protocols.

Why Recommending Outlook.com?

gmail import to outlook

Outlook.com is nothing apart from an email service by Microsoft, and it is named among the best webmail services, previously know as Hotmail. As you know that both Google and Microsoft are business rivals, I will not say that one provides better emailing services than the other does. However, one should change himself according to the technologies and trends. Outlook.com provides a nice and clean ‘Metro’ style look that makes you feel the Windows 8 interface. The email service is best suited to those who have been using the Outlook desktop client for years. In fact, such users will feel like home.

Switching to Outlook.com

If you really wish to knock off Gmail and switch to Outlook.com, Microsoft will certainly appreciate your step. Well, MS Outlook (previously Hotmail) has been a super fine email client, but people, even I, refused to switch to this email service provider. In order to make the email migration process easy and secure, Microsoft, this time has come up with a tool that enables migrating from Gmail to Outlook. The tool enables switching to Outlook.com from your Gmail account in a way that the same Inbox is available on the new platform.

Well, the email migration tool has already become popular and people are using it to migrate their emails and contacts from Gmail to Outlook.com. Microsoft, as per the estimation, says that the number of users migrating to Outlook.com will soon cross 400 million. Moreover, those who were planning to switch to Outlook.com now can make a move easily as well as in a secure manner.

Steps to follow

Since the secure and reliable tool from Microsoft is now available, you can switch from your old Gmail account to Outlook.com that has advanced features. Mentioned below is the process that you must follow in order to have smooth and hassle-free Gmail to Outlook migration:

import gmail to outlook

  • At the very first step, you need to create an Outlook.com account, which I believe that you must have created already. Now, click the ‘Tools’ icon in the top right corner, and then choose ‘More mail settings’.

import gmail to outlook

  • On the page that opens, you see so many options. Look for ‘Managing your account’, and then click ‘Import email accounts’ sub-heading under it.

google account connect to outlook

  • After that, choose a Google account to import from. Here, you see Google as a default option, and is shown when Outlook is installed on the same computer. In case the email ID from which you are importing emails is already registered with Microsoft, it detects that ID and lists under “Choose from where you want to import your account:”.
  • Now, a pop-up dialog box appears to explain what is about to happen next, “Send email from your Gmail address using Outlook.com” and “See and chat with your Gmail contacts from the new platform (i.e. Outlook.com) and other Microsoft web services”.
  • The ‘Options’ link enables selecting and importing all of the Gmail messages into a folder and/or sub folders, which by default is opposite to the default settings (i.e. Migrate selected folders and sub folders only). With the selected option, click ‘Start’.

Note: Based on the requirements, you can opt for the ‘Options’ later or tight during email import.

  •  Subsequently, you will be asked to choose an email account to import data from, in case you signed in to Gmail with multiple email accounts. Choose the right account to proceed. However, in case your account is not listed, click ‘Add account’ and type-in your login credentials, and then proceed.
  • You see a message box, saying, what is about to happen next. Moreover, it asks your permission to authorize Microsoft to access your email account.

import google account to outlook

  • Click ‘Accept’ to provide authorization to Microsoft to access your Gmail account information. Once you click ‘Accept’, it will start importing your emails and contacts on Gmail account into Outlook.com account. The time elapsed in the migration process relies on the number of emails and contacts in your Gmail account.

import time for gmail to outlook

Note: The migration process keeps going on in the background without bothering you in any sense. Therefore, you can carry on with other work on the computer.

You will receive an email from Microsoft, which includes steps to set up email auto-forwarding. These steps will be executed every time you receive an email on your Gmail address, and then forward it to your Outlook.com account. However, you can still send emails from your Gmail address.

While the email auto-forwarding steps are being executed, your Outlook account remains safe; there is not at all an issue with the Gmail account as well. In case you want to use your Gmail account at its original address , you can undoubtedly use it. You will see all your emails and contacts intact on Gmail as well.

Note: In case you want to give it a try, I suggest going for it since it does not affect any of both the email accounts. Moreover, you can anytime access your Gmail account right on the mail.google.com

Leftover

We generally uninstall a software program from Control Panel but do you know that it doesn’t completely removes the program. There are folders and files along with unused registry keys which were created by the program but now they are pretty useless since it is uninstalled.

To remove leftover files of a software, you need advanced uninstallation tool. These kind of tools find unwanted leftover files after uninstall process and sweep them off completely.

[sws_pullquote_right]It is essential to remove leftovers in order to completely uninstall a program. [/sws_pullquote_right]

I personally use IObit Uninstaller. Though, I got it as a module with Advanced SystemCare Ultimate but it can be also downloaded as standalone free program.

IObit Uninstaller

Just like default Windows Installer feature, all installed programs are listed. Initially, uninstaller of the program is executed. After which, you are given an option whether to start a “Powerful Scan”. This scan looks up for any leftover items of the program. If found, list of files and registry keys is displayed.

Remove Leftover files after Uninstall

Either choose individually or select all to delete them in one click. Alternatively, they can be shredded if you want to delete them beyond recovery. Not only windows software but IObit Uninstaller also supports uninstalling of browser addons/extensions and plugins and Windows Updates too.

If you are not using it already and think that there may be many unused shortcuts and registry keys of software you uninstalled previously, you can use Advanced SystemCare Ultimate‘s one click tool to clean and speed up computer.

Conclusion

Unused files, shortcuts and registry entries often clutter space and computer index making other processes to slow down.  IObit Uninstaller is one stop solution for it and completely free to download and use.

[sws_button class=”” size=”sws_btn_medium” align=”sws_btn_align_center” href=”http://www.iobit.com/advanceduninstaller.html” target=”_blank” label=”Download IObit Uninstaller” template=”sws_btn_green” textcolor=”” fontweight=”normal” bgcolor=”” bgcolorhover=”” glow=”sws_btn_glow” btnwidth=”” textalign=”center”] [/sws_button]

P.S. I consider it as one of the Must-Have software on Windows PC.

I guess Babylon Toolbar is hardly installed wishfully. It is either installed by fooling user or enters into system while installing some other software. That’s not a problem; problem is with its removal. It is so stubborn that you just don’t have to uninstall babylon toolbar but also remove all traces to get rid of it.

Bad thing about Babylon is that it cannot be removed easy way like we uninstall other programs from Control Panel.

This is how the Web browser when Babylon toolbar is inside your computer system:

Remove babylon homepage

As the traditional process of uninstalling, we will go to Control Panel >> Programs and Features and uninstall Babylon Toolbar.

Uninstall Babylon Toolbar

System uninstall is done so, let’s move on to browsers one by one to remove babylon toolbar.

Remove Babylon Toolbar from Firefox

1. Press CTRL+Shift+A to see installed addons on Firefox.

2. Disable every addon with name “Babylon” in it and then Remove.

Remove Babylon Firefox Addon

Not all traces are removed because if we look for keyword “babylon” in Firefox configuration, it is still there. So, next step is to remove all entries named “babylon” from Configuration and Preference file of Firefox.

3. Press Win+R >> type %APPDATA% >> Press OK.

4. Navigate to mozilla/firefox/profiles/(folder)/ and here you will find prefs.js which stores all your Preferences.

5. Right click on pref.js file and click Edit to open it in Notepad.

6. Press CTRL+F >> type babylon >> Find Next

Remove Babylon Firefox Traces

7. All entries of babylon will be highlighted. Delete entire lines with babylon in it one by one.

8. Go to Firefox Option and in General Tab, change delete the URL – search.babylon.com and set it to whatever you want as homepage.

Remove Babylon New Tab Firefox

9. Close Firefox and Navigate to Firefox Installation Folder (Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\SearchPlugins) Delete babylon.xml

Remove Babylon Search XML

If you carried out all above steps, Babylon is hopefully removed along with all its traces. Open Firefox and it should be clean now.

Remove Babylon Toolbar from Chrome

1. Press Alt+F followed by S to enter Chrome Settings.

2. Look for On Startup and click on set page to remove Babylon URL.

Remove Babylon Chrome Homepage

3. Look down for Search and change preferred search engine from Babylon to something else.

Remove Babylon Chrome Search

4. Done! Restart Chrome and it should be clean now.

Remove Babylon From Internet Explorer

I couldn’t notice any Babylon addon installed on Internet Explorer. Only thing changed was homepage so, go to Internet options and change Homepage to whatever you want.

Remove Babylon Internet Explorer

Babylon isn’t any virus or malware but you can categorize it under PUP (Potentially unwanted program). It annoys user, collect browser data and makes creates hindrance in working. Moreover, it inserts itself in all possible to computer system but using this guide  I hope you will be able to uninstall Babylon Toolbar completely with all its traces removed.

By default, programs you run on your computer uses all available processor cores, and this happens since Windows XP and even on Windows 8. But, if you have a dual or quad-core, you can set the “processor affinity” to choose which CPU core should program use.

That way, you can choose a specific core for a Program, while another application runs on another. Although it is not possible to define this “core priority” for system services, you can use this feature in programs like Google Chrome, Firefox or any other. So, you get a good overall performance on your computer.

Changing processor affinity means you limit an application to make it run only on certain core, which can be very useful if you have a program that is hogging all the CPU resources. But beware: for most applications, it is recommended that you should not make this change in the settings – it is better to let Windows manage them.

Setting the processor affinity lasts as long as an application is open. When you close the program or restart the computer, the values return to standard form. Here’s how to choose a program to run exclusively on one of the CPU cores:

Set Processor Affinity on Windows XP

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open the Windows Task Manager and go to the “Processes” tab. In the process list, select the one you want to change and right click on your name.

If you do not know which process is associated with which application, open the tab “Applications”, click the right mouse button on the program name and select “Go To Process”. This command will open the “Processes” tab automatically and the specified process will be highlighted;

2. Now, right click on the process name chosen and select “Set Affinity” from the context menu;

Processor Affnity - Windows Xp

3. In the dialog “with the CPU Affinity”, you will find several options for selection: “all processors” and the options of your processor cores. If you have a dual-core processor, for example, they will be listed as “CPU 0” and “CPU 1”. Simply just mark the cores you want and click OK.

Windows Vista and 7 Processor Affinity

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Windows Task Manager;

2. In the “Processes” tab, check the box “Show processes from all users”;

3. Right-click on the process whose processor affinity you want to change and choose “Set Affinity.”

Windows 7 Processor Affinitty

4. Now choose which core CPU you want the program to run, and click OK.

Windows 7 Processor Affinity CPU Core

Windows 8 Processor Affinity

1. Click the right mouse button in the Windows taskbar and select “Task Manager” or “Task Manager”, depending on the operating system language;

2. Then select the tab “Details” (detail);

3. Find the process in the list and click right on it;

4. Choose “Set affinity” (set affinity) in the context menu;

Windows 8 Processor Affinity

5. By default, applications are scheduled to use all the processors in the PC. Simply uncheck this option and choose which core you want the program to run.

I personally use two programs simultaneously for most of the time name Google Chrome and Firefox. So, I prefer keeping Firefox on one core and Chrome on another because they are the most resource hogging applications.

According to your use, wisely choose CPU Core To be used by Program by Processor Affinity.

If you have a PlayStation 3 then there is no need to go for any other game controllers for your Windows PC gaming needs. You can use all the features of PS3 controller on Windows Games without any big hurdles.

In this guide we will go through connecting the PS3 Gamepad via USB and wireless via Bluetooth. I will try to keep the instructions short and direct to avoid confusions. If you want quick remedy then you can directly go to the video tutorial at end of the post. So, now lets start with the procedure.

How To Play PC Games with Ps3 Controller

The Connected Controller drop down menu will show you all the Gamepads you have connected and installed drivers for. So this will be our first task.

Mode selection is important. Once your Gamepad drivers are installed Motioninjoy will emulate the Gamepad according to the Mode you have selected. Say for instance, You selected PlayStation 2 mode. Your PS3 Gamepad will be emulated in way that Windows detects it as PS2 connected Gamepad. This will match the features of your PS3 Gamepad to that of PS2, additional features of PS3 Gamepad will be disabled.

[alert-announce] The Mode will fool Windows about the connected gamepad. As a result we will be restricted on features that a PS3 Gamepad provides. [/alert-announce]

Motor sliders are for adjusting the strength of force feedback of your controller. The Enable, Vibration Testing and Game controller panel buttons will be discussed later.

Now that your Controller Drivers are installed, Click on the Profile Tab. You will find that your PS3 controller is detected in Connected Controller menu and via USB. You can select the mode you want to use it in.You can also check battery status.

Using the Ps2 mode, you can play Ps2 Games on Windows with PS3 controller. To test the connection you can click on Vibration Testing, If your controller vibrates then your setup is correct. Click Enable if you want to use it as Wired Gamepad right away.

You can make changes to keys according to your convenience and also depending on games you play. If you are remapping keys, it is a good option to create a new configuration profile. You can create as much profiles as you can, each for a different game. Later you can select these profiles from the drop down option beside the Predefined modes.

[alert-success] Different key mapping profiles can be selected anytime from drop down option present in predefined controller Modes. [/alert-success]

Gamepad Calibration

Calibrating the Gamepad keys before using it for the first time is a good practice. Here you will know if any of Gamepad Keys are not functioning then you have to remap it to other key. Other benefit is that the sensor, analog and other function positions will be recalculated. Hence you get optimum performance out of the Gamepad. So here are the steps to Calibrate Gamepad.
