Nitro Pro 8 Review: Best PDF Tool, Maximum Features At Minimum Price
When PDF comes into mind, second thought is about Adobe Acrobat but let me tell you Nitro PRO 8 has always been better and cheaper. It doesn’t just promises but proves by offering faster conversion times, smaller PDF files, automatic OCR implementation and auto-save and recovery technology.
I am using Nitro Pro since last 3 years when it was called Nitro PDF Pro. From version 7, the word “PDF” has been dropped and it is called “Nitro Pro 8”. It is an all in one utility for all PDF needs. Call it conversion of PDF, Editing, scanning, combining, signing, encrypting and yes, even reading too.
Windows users are more used to MS Office so continuing the legacy, Nitro Pro 8 too has ribbon interface. So, operations won’t be difficult to carry on the new version.
Create and Combine PDF
Create PDF – Inbuilt Nitro PDF creator (Virtual Printer) makes it possible to create PDF from almost any document easily. PDFs you create with Nitro Pro 8 are compatible with Adobe Acrobat Professional, Adobe Reader, and other third party PDF readers and applications.
Combine multiple PDFs – Just select number of PDF documents and output can be obtained as single document by combining them quickly.
Convert PDF
Converting Scanned document into editable text
This is helpful for converting hard copy or printed copy of a document into editable Word document with editable text. Inbuilt OCR technology can recognize text in scanned images and transform into Text easily.
In my tests, OCR was around 80% correct in recognizing word characters from image. Make sure that you choose quality as High while using this feature to avoid disappointment.

Convert PDF to multiple formats- Convert to Word Document, Excel Sheet or just an image with one click instantly from the menu button in the bar.
PDF Editor
Since version 7, Nitro has brought Paragraph selection and easy text editing within PDF document. Editing tools work smoothly, without performance lags. I was impressed by the speed with which I could edit images, combine multiple PDFs, convert PDFs to other formats, and perform other typical operations.
MS Office 2013 ‘s Word now supports PDF reading as well as editing so don’t expect any miraculous editor interface but still most of the essential options are given like Font selection, size and formatting.
While adding images, you can make changes such as brightness, contrast and colour. You can also extract individual images from the document in this way, or crop unwanted elements from view.
Collaborative Working and Reviewing
It is like working with real paper document on Nitro Pro 8. All the novelties of real paper of writing, signing, annotating, notes and reviewing is possible on Nitro Pro 8. It allows you to choose exactly how you comment or review a document, whether it’s through tiny notes, markup text, freehand scribbling or even a selection of user-defined stamps.
Protection
Nitro PDF 8 can take care of security of documents in well manner. Along with, traditional password protection, Nitro Pro8 offers digital signature and encryption tools here for sensitive documents.
PDF Recovery– While working if the document is open for more than 10 minutes, it is autosaved by default.
Watermark– Insert logos, watermarks, and other graphical elements across multiple pages, all within a single task.
Forms Filling
Nitro Pro 8 lets you create fillable PDF forms from scratch. The Forms ribbon includes a full set of form elements you can drag and drop onto a blank page in order to create a form. There’s full support for industry standards like AcroForms, but version 8 adds a handy new smart alignment tool for non-interactive and scanned documents.
If you import a form in from a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, you have to use the Type Text Tool (Home | Type Text) to fill out the form fields. There is no feature to automate creating form fields in Nitro PDF 8 as you can in Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Conclusion
Personally, I am fan of Nitro Pro since years now and the new version has delighted me offering intuitive interface and bunch of features. Well, I have never considered Acrobat for PDF as it is slow and heavy but if you still consider it, let me tell you Adobe Acrobat is 3 times the price of Nitro and offers 1/3rd of features. (See comparison chart)
If you already have Nitro PDF 6 or 7, there aren’t many features to force you buy this upgrade but you can still it at discounted price of 49.95$. For new users, Nitro Pro is worth the price taking into account its usability, compatibility and flexibility. I will give it a 5 Star rating.
