How My First Presentation Got Featured on SlideShare – Secret Recipe

How Presentation for Featured on Slideshare

Though I was a member of this popular slide hosting site called SlideShare since years but never contributed anything. While going through their weekly email newsletter featuring the best presentation slides, I too thought of posting one. Not just posting but getting it featured too.

One thing common among all those slides in featured section was its Appearance. Yes, the first thing by which a visitor judges content is How it looks. Even the thumbnail previews of presentations in email newsletter were eye-catching. You may cross check this fact by having a quick look on SlideShare homepage.

This made one thing clear that, I will have to focus more on the appearance and visuals of the presentation.

How to do that?

Fortunately, I came across this website called Slides That Rock. They have templates for sale and as their tagline says, they do not suck. I purchased one from their shop.

What Topic to select for a Presentation?

For me, there couldn’t have been a better idea than a blog post. I decided to make slides of existing blog article.
List of Online Mind Mapping Services was finalized after some discussions with me and myself.

Created slides with my content and uploaded it. Voila! Just after few hours, it was on the top!

What’s the Secret?

I couldn’t figure out the reason behind this myself but a day after, something revealed. Friend came over and I asked him what did he like about the presentation because he was one of the commenter who appreciated my work on Facebook. His reply completely surprised me.

He said “I don’t remember what it was about but it looked great while I skimmed through.”
Notice the word ‘looked’ in above statement. It is all about how you present it.

So, it is not just me who went carried away by looks but most of people judge first by appearance and then content.

But they always say- Content is the King

I do not disagree on this because, obviously efforts were taken on content creation and setting up elements of presentation templates to suit the topic chosen.

What I want to convey is, make your content presentable in such a way that it forces the eyes of visitor to stop.

If Content is King then, Appearance is Queen. Make her good looking 🙂

See you on the Slideshare Homepage!

P.S. This is not a sponsored article by SlidesThatRock.

P.P.S. Try to find out some more websites providing good designer Slide templates other than mentioned above.
