Google to Discontinue its Failed projects
It’s not that Google is a loser but its not possible for anyone to win every game. Google tried its hand in every possible field on the Internet. But in this race, some services offered by Google could not become much popular or you can simply say that they FAILED So, Google has finally decide to kill such 6 projects of its own.
Let’s know them one by one :
Google Video : It will be discontinued after few months while Youtube (which is taken over by Google) will continue to serve Video uploads.
Google Catalog Search : As a demonstration of a new technology (called OCR) that made it possible to search the full text of hundreds and soon thousands of product catalogs. It was given farewell on I5th Jan.
Google Notebook : Google plans to stop active development on Google Notebook, but will continue to maintain the service for those who’ve already signed up via the web interface here.
Dodgeball : It’s a Mobile social network acquired by Google that lets users share their location with friends via text message will be shut down.
Jaiku : Similar microblogging service like Twitter is being migrated to Google App Engine and open source microblogging platform is planned. Group of Google volunteers will take care of the existing service.
Google Mashup Editor : which is currently in limited private beta will be shutdown in 6 months.
There are some others too who will be joining the above list.
- Google Knol which emerged as competitor of Wikipedia and failed badly
- GrandCentral, an advanced Telecom service by Google.
- Google Base is a place where you can easily submit all types of online and offline content
