I currently use an iPad, iPod Touch (for music), BlackBerry, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, one palmtop, a mini laptop and two highly sophisticated Laptops; not to talk of the highly powerful desktop I have in my study, and some of them I use them for work, but others is just for distracting, gaming and even online gambling since I found out I could Get £40 from Comparethebets with their exclusive bonus code so that hooked me. What kind of life is that? Don’t I sound crazy to you? Who in his right senses would know the right thing to do and still fail to do it? Only a crazy person of course; only that I am crazy with style and class; I AM ADDICTED!!! Oh my, Unthinkable!

And I am not alone; I have once read of a woman who deactivated her Facebook account because she was concerned with the amount of time she spent on it. She said what had started as her favorite hobby (an urge to share and chat) mystically turned into a demanding and anti- social addiction that had practically taken over her life. The last stoke that broke her camel’s back was when she completely forgot about a long-planned reunion with a friend one evening simply because she’d been sidetracked by mindless Facebooking.

Obsessed Addiction

get rid of gadget addiction

Wouldn’t it have just been perfect if everything had stayed just at the obsession stage? After all, there’s the possibility you might be obsessed about or with something and still not get that thing to the point of being addicted to it. I don’t know; perhaps if I had not been financially capable to possess such gadgets, I wouldn’t have been so involved and implicated. I wish I just only was obsessed with them; at least, I could look at them from afar off and WISH. Nothing more!

[alert-note] Ways to Curb Facebook Addiction and Save Time Wastage [/alert-note]

Expert Perspective

gadget addiction

Presently, there is much wide-spread debate amongst psychiatrists and psychologists as to whether or not there is such thing as internet addiction. Some experts say it is becoming a major problem, and can be as destructive to a person’s life as an addiction to alcohol, gambling or pornography. There are worries about online games, social networking and virtual relationships replacing real-life friendships, there are so many it makes you feel like a Gaming Buffs and no slowing down in sight. Check out the small hands gaming mice which is perfect for those who have smaller hands. But others say that the very idea of being to a medium of communication is ludicrous. Theses supporters claim it is like ironically saying someone is a ‘language addict’ or ‘thinking addict’, which of course makes no sense. With easy availability of smartphones for sale in OLX India, masses of people have ready internet access anywhere and anytime.

A study conducted last year found that while mobile phones were valued as a way to stay productive, there were downsides to being available at all times. The survey of 2,254 adults found that 44 percent of cell-phone owners had slept with their phone next to their bed and that 67 percent had experienced ‘paranoid rings’, checking their phone even when it was not ringing or vibrating. Still, the proportion of cell-phone owners who said they could live without it went up to 37 percent compared to 29 percent in 2006.

The Human Brain

get rid of gadget addiction

The human brain uses a complex system of senses, thoughts, and feelings to help us survive our environment. Feelings, most precisely, play a very vital role in warning us that something may be wrong. The brain interprets all these signals and determines what, if any, action should be taken. What do you think would happen if that delicate system ceased to function properly? I’m not a psychology therapist or shrink, but I’m relatively sure it would be a real mess. Instead of processing our thoughts and feelings and doing something about them, we boot-up a gadget to help us do so. In other words, you are substituting your brain with a machine; little wonder we have Robots!

Technical Problems

get rid of office frustration

It’s a logical phenomenon; at work, you get pissed by your boss or worst still, a colleague; at home, your wife gets on your nerves or your kid does something real bad; on the road; you get annoyed by a bad driver; just name it, even tho you love your kids and your wife you may even had gotten intention bracelets for you and her. Still from time to time, each of us feels small, wronged and helplessly vulnerable; it’s only human. Under normal circumstances, you spend time comprehending, interpreting, and overcoming these feelings. But what if, instead of listening to your feelings and processing your thoughts, you play a video game, listen to your iPod, text or call somebody, Instant Message, e-mail, or check out the latest Hollywood trailer or some moronic reality show on YouTube video?

In short, you escape it for a while (at least you think you’re escaping); but you’re not. The original problem continues to manifest and nothing gets resolved. Unresolved feelings don’t simply go away; they become part of your survival mechanism, thereby aggravated, hence difficult to ignore. If those issues are ignored on a consistent basis, they fester like a wound that’s not allowed to heal. They begin to leak out anytime we’re reminded of them; and when you can’t get your fix on your gadget, you get overly offended, point fingers, become enraged, blame everything and everybody. You are as good as a ‘dead man walking’

Man’s Best Friend

dog walker

What happened to Dogs? How do we tell them that because of our stupidity, their roles in our lives have been replaced by gadgets? How do we introduce these new best friends to friends and family? Perhaps we don’t have to; after all, they are also part of the cycle.

But I have one last scare for you; I give you just a few months, there might be no YOU anymore if you continue at this rate; your obituary (and funeral) will be my confirmation. You can avoid this; the ball’s in your court!

The Apple TV is finally in India. The prodigal content based service from the infamous iStore is being launched at a price of INR 7900 in India. The Apple TV was initially developed at Apple purely as a hobby, but the product was too tempting to be just a hobby and was finally released as Apple’s very own Apple TV. While the name seems to suggest a television, Apple TV is nothing in those lines of thought. For the uninitiated it is just a content service not much unlike your DTH set top box, with the difference being that it brings the most high defined contents like movies, music and photo streams straight into your widescreen television alongwith the services of iTunes, iCloud and photostream.

Apple TV not for India

The Apple TV has definitely had a good stint in its already existing markets such as the US market. However with the launch in India, the question stands as to whether the product will see highly scaled sales and popularity like the iPhone or it will just be yet another launch in the content provider market.

The initial reaction at anything Apple is of course one of intrigue and the promise of a great product. But with the Apple TV, the question stands as to whether the popularity of the iPhone would be replicated, in the event of which the Apple TV might well be a competition to the DTH and cable services in India today or else in an alternative traction, the Apple TV might just prove to be of value to the eyes and be nothing more than a showpiece at an iStore near you.

Why? It’s because in India we still do not like to pay for everything we use. However before an elaboration on why the apple TV is not valuable for Indian Customer, let’s look into what the Apple TV actually brings to the table.

[alert-announce]iPhone 5 Launch For Indian Users Bring Troubles and Disappointments[/alert-announce]

What Is On Offer In The Apple TV

The Apple TV definitely brings in one of the most extensive content services around to the drawing table and into your widescreen TV. The packaging of the contents and the utility of Apple’s iTunes, iCloud together is a definite plus that the Apple TV carries.

Apple TV India Unbox

The Apple TV’s extensive content services and utilities include the following:

  • Digital Collection On Airtime: Home Sharing feature on the Apple TV allows streaming songs, photos and home videos on the computer. Your entire digital collection over the air to your Apple TV.
  • Exclusive Movie Content: The movie content available via the Apple TV is exclusive and highly extensive. It includes a huge line up of Hollywood titles as well as new releases. There is even the option of reading through quick film reviews before you rent the movies. The charges for the SD rentals stand at Rs.80 and for HD it stands at Rs.120
  • Music Unlimited: The one line from Apple is this–“Fill your home with the music you love, straight from your Apple TV”. The music content available are those which you have purchased on iTunes. And in case of iTunes Match subscribers, music imported from CDs can also be played via the Apple TV.
  • AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring: The Apple TV not only provides content streaming from your system but also provides streaming from your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. So already subscribed to content on any of these devices can be streamed and played right through the Apple TV.

These and a few other content services that come packed in with the Apple TV surely makes its launch in India one of note. But is it meant for the Indian market to be precise. The Apple TV might be unique and special but it might not find a place in Indian living rooms soon. Why? Reasons galore.

Not Essentially A Valuable Must Have

The reason why the iPhone fares so good in India is because it is seen as a valuable must have in terms of its price value and its worth for value and of course it helps that it is highly exclusive in the market. But the same can hardly be said for the Apple TV. At an odd 8000 INR, the Apple TV has a high value definitely but is it a good worth for the money? I would say no, at least not immediately.

Yes, it does provide oodles of content that would be difficult to get in a single place but then if you would have noticed, every other content leads up to a paid subscription, like with the songs on iTunes or the movie rentals, which as a concept I daresay does not work in the Indian market. One could argue that such contents even on the iPhone are a paid service, but then that is not the only thing we get from an iPhone, unlike which in the Apple TV contents are the main stay.

[alert-announce]India Won’t Get All iOS 6 Features of Siri, Maps, Facebook And More[/alert-announce]

It’s In India but Is It in India

The Apple TV has been launched in India, but the question stands as to whether it has arrived in India. Sick puns apart, the question is really into whether the Apple TV comes blended with the Indian market? For starters, its price tag of an odd almost 8000 INR is not something an average Indian would be subscribing to, for just a content service hub.

Secondly, while the product is definitely eye catchy and attractive, does it carry the compatibility required to suit utility bandwidths in India. Internet bandwidths are still not that efficient to support such services in India. Furthermore, the Apple TV might be into India but until and unless it is able to feature in the Indian television channel contents into its services, the point of getting it into your living room might not make much of sense.

The Apple TV is definitely a looked up to product launch in India, but it does not look to be a adopted by Indian Customers because it definitely does not seem to be in sync with Indian times of now. And of course there is always the truly Indian fact that we still do not like paying for everything we use.

On iOS, Apple has done an excellent job of providing the ‘Find your iPhone‘ feature which is lacking on Android. However, you have several applications including AVG and Lookout that provide you this feature. They both provide you with free and paid versions. The free versions give you good antivirus security and basic anti-theft features. But, my search for something better ended when I came across avast!! Mobile Security.

When Rohit wrote about mSpy a few days back, I suggested that he should check out avast!’s offering since it’s a great free alternative.

android security app

[alert-note] Three Must Have Free Security Apps for Android Smartphone[/alert-note]

Key features

  • Antivirus: Scans installed apps and memory card content on demand and new apps upon first use.
  • Privacy Report: Scans and displays access rights and intents of installed apps.
  • Anti-Theft (hidden component): Gives you remote control via SMS or Web (cell phone tracking, activate siren, memory wipe, etc.).
  • Network Meter: Measures incoming/outgoing data transfers.
  • Web Shield: Scans each URL that loads and warns you if it’s malware-infected. Includes USSD blocker.
  • Widget: Gives you control of the app from your Android desktop.
  • Web Interface: Provides remote control of anti-theft features (cell phone lock, GPS tracking, memory wipe, etc.).
  • SiteCorrect: Automatically fixes mistyped URLs.
  • Shield Control: Advanced settings for app, web, and messages scanning.
  • SMS/Call Filtering: Filters out particular contacts that you select.
  • App Manager: Lists apps and their sizes (MB), CPU load, memory used, etc.
  • Battery Save: Runs only when performing tasks.
  • Firewall (works on rooted phones only): Serves as gatekeeper for network traffic.

Installation and Configuration

The fastest way to install the app is to head over to its page on Google Play and hit Install. Once you’ve installed the app on your phone or tablet (I have a Nexus 7), you can just open the app and follow the configuration wizard.

If you’re activating avast! Anti-Theft, user can choose a custom name that disguises the app (e.g. call it “Cow game”) so that it is even harder for thieves to find and remove. Once you’re up and running you’ll be greeted with the home screen similar to this on your mobile phone which gives you one click access to all that the app has to offer.

android security apps

I especially liked the Privacy Advisor feature which tells you exactly what apps have access to which settings. It’s great to keep track of the level of access each app has on your phone or tablet.

Avast android security

Tracking your phone

The app would be useless without the Remote Control feature. You can remotely control your phone after install at https://my.avast.com. You will need to login with your avast! username and password which will give you access to all the devices linked to the account.

You can view basic information about the device or the activity log as below.

Avast Mobile Security app

However, the real power that avast! Mobile security gives you is the anti-theft features. You can choose to remotely lock your device and activating a remote siren. It’s loud and I could hear it in the other room when I was testing the same.

[alert-success] Locate Lost Android Phone, Tablet if Stolen even when no App Pre-installed [/alert-success]

android lost phone track

Additionally, it allows you to remotely locate the phone via GPS, WiFi or mobile network. The WiFi feature is definitely more useful for tablets since you might not have the mobile network option or choose to disable GPS to save battery.

Conclusion

avast! Mobile Security is definitely one of the most feature rich apps I have seen that is available completely free. The tracking features are really good and will help you track your phone or tablet if you lose it or if it gets stolen. The remote erase feature is definitely a much needed option if you’re sure you’re not going to get the device back and want to securely erase its contents.

Do download and give it a test run. I bet you won’t switch back to your old security software.

Validating HTML is the process of authenticating the syntax of the HTML code. It is done to ensure that the HTML code complies with the principles defined by the World Wide Web association. A valid HTML code ensures easy maintenance for the future as it provides a trouble-free environment to work. It not only reflects a degree of professionalism but also teaches you some good practices.

Not only this, it augments the compatibility of any website with the future version of  HTML as well as any web browser. Moreover, it can help to eliminate the malformed aspect in the structure of your site design and  the broken links. As a result it enhances the speed of the page and the user experience  of the site visitors.

The validators excel at picking up the missed closing tags and other major technicalities that can be fixed. Furthermore,  even if the HTML is validated, all the web pages need to be checked in different browsers possible. This ensures that the confines of the validators are compensated for and that the page should work accurately.

Why the HTML Validation is Necessary?

Errors are something which you always want to get rid of, right? HTML code validation aids in identifying those areas which cause errors in the site. It also prevents the search engine spiders from accessing your website. Most importantly, it provides easy access to the visitors for whom you have worked  so hard to build the site.

At times you are not sure about  which particular error needs correction. A code validator points out the error that needs to be corrected. This assists you to render your web pages brilliantly across all the browser. This in turn makes your website more accessible  to those who wants to see it.

An error free and simple written code not only is an indication of professionalism but help the search engines easily locate your pages without any problem. This helps in making your website search engine friendly. By eradicating the mistakes in the HTML code, you can easily update any changes to your web pages. As you know time is money, therefore , validation helps you to save both time and effort in the future. I am sure ,you will certainly be the happiest person if your efforts are channelized properly.

A non-validated HTML in due course of time will not make your website positioned properly  for the search engines rank. Oops! All your effort will go in vain.  On the other hand, a site without HTML validation will not look professional all across the different browsers. You will probably not make the mistake of not checking the HTML mistakes.

Removing unneeded code helps to create smaller pages. This in turn helps any website to load faster and better customer experience. Further, a clean  code will not put too much pressure on your server. It can lessen the amount of  the bandwidth  and the web space  used. Validation  can also minimize the cost of hosting your website.

What are the Different Tools to Validate HTML?

1. HTML validator FireFox Add-on: If you are using FireFox, you can easily validate HTML as you visit web pages.Isn’t that interesting? It’s right there in your browser, so you can validate as you visit the web pages. Here the number of errors in the HTML page can be seen in the form of an icon near the status bar while you browse.

html validator firefox addon

2. Google chrome extensions: If you are a fan of the Google chrome browser (I am sure we all are), then you will grab this free extension without any second thought. This extension validates the HTML code of the current page. Run the extension automatically, and you can click the icon to get a menu or even press any of the keyboard shortcuts to authenticate the current web page.

html validator google chrome-extension

3. WDG HTML validator: It is an easy to use HTML validator that helps in checking your HTML.It is one of the quickest tool and provide you with the facts  and figures about the live web pages. It supports an enormous pool of character encoding. It does not make use of  an added source code from  other validation resources. So, what more do you want? Grab this tool to clear the HTML mistakes.

wdg html validator

4. HTML power tool: The HTML power tool is a set of windows applications. It helps you to manage your website efficiently. This tool basically validates the entire website offline. It checks the spellings and links and even make orphan files visible.

5. CSE HTML validator lite: This tool is available in three flavours. Lite has few features and is free, the standard costs money has little more features and the Pro cost contain features more than the standard cost money. But it is better to use the Lite version. The CSE validator  for windows is designed  specially with an unusually powerful custom syntax. It checks the engine for examining the validity of  web documents such as CSS, HTML and XHTML. As this tool comes with the Batch Wizard tool, it helps you to check the entire website for validation. It offers superior quality as it has been developed  for more than 8 years. We all want quality work at the end of the day, don’t we?

6. HTML toolbox: The toolbox is an online subscription service to check your website for any bad links and poor HTML. It also checks the browser compatibility. As it is a subscription service you need to pay in order to validate your page.

But one thing you must remember is that, even the best  and the most experienced validator can make mistakes. However, with the validators you can dream of achieving  success by minimizing the errors of your sites. So, are you ready to apply these tools to project the best site for your visitors? Probably the answer is definitely yes.

Every laptop/computer needs to have hard disk which stores operating system, application files and all your personal data. This hard disk is called internal hard disk. But sometimes need arises to increase the storage of your laptop or computer. So, which one to choose between External and Internal Hard Disk.

In that case you have options of purchasing further internal hard disk or a portable external hard disk, but for that you need better understanding to meet your requirement what type of hard disk to buy. I will be discussing some points which you should consider for making your decision. Also, after reading this post, you do not need to search anywhere else for this as I am writing these points after a full research (sources: web and my personal experiences).

compare external hdd vs internal hdd

I remember that I purchased my first laptop with 500 GB hard disk which seemed enough storage in those old days. But my passion for movies, music and high graphic games made me to buy a new hard disk soon. For that I Googled “External hard disk Vs Internal hard disk” many a times and also asked some experts for their suggestions and then came on a decision of purchasing an external hard disk as it would be portable. But you may need another one, so read these points carefully and decide which hard disk you should buy according to your needs.

Comparison of Internal Hard Disk Vs External Hard Disk:

I am going to compare internal and external hard drives point-wise. These will help you to understand the exact differences between both types of hard disks.

  •  Portability

buy portable or internal hard disk

Internal hard disks can assemble in your system while external hard drives are portable. You can carry external hard disks along with you and can take away anywhere like a pen drive. You can consider them similar to a pen drives but they differ in size. You can use a single external hard disk to store data of multiple computers and can carry that with you for using whenever required. While internal hard disks can store data of a single computer as they are assembled within the body of system.

Sometimes if you have to go somewhere, where a PC is available and you just need your data, in that case portable (external) hard disks can fulfill your need without the need of taking your laptop/computer with you. You can keep your data stored on an external disk and can use any time & anywhere with a compatible PC.

  • Speed

Fast hard disk

Internal hard disks are faster than external hard disks for data transmission. They can copy and move data at a high speed as compared to portable drives. It is because data transmission speed depends upon interface between drive and system. As external hard disks transfer data via USB 2.0 data cable, they are slower than internal hard drives. But you can get faster data transmission speed even on external hard disks via eSATA or FireWire on eSATA portable drives. Only you may need some additional hardware and drivers for that. Also the speed of USB 3.0 and internal hard disk are almost same.

Again internal hard disk can decrease processing speed of your computer due to cluttering of data. While external hard disk helps you to keep your internal hard disk free which can provide you faster processing speed.

  • Compatibility

esata usb converter

Compatibility is an important factor, you can’t ignore it if you want to buy something more useful.

External USB hard disks are compatible with all systems. You can use them with any computer/laptop which has a USB port. So, this feature of external hard disks makes them more compatible as compared to internal hard disks. But one thing you should consider is that eSATA external hard drives are compatible only with those systems which have additional hardware and driver for eSATA connectivity.

  • Price

I just checked the prices of Seagate internal and external hard disks before writing this post and found that both type of drives have almost same prices. Both types of hard disks have price about Rs. 3300 to 3500 for normal specifications of 500 GB storage capacity. And for higher storage capacity, I found that external hard disks cost you less than internal drives.

Conclusion

  • You should purchase internal hard disk if you have to use hard disk on a single computer/laptop so that you can get faster speed. Like if you love movies, high configuration games etc then internal hard disks can save your time for storing them. (Note: It can decrease processing time of system due to cluttering of data.)
  • If you don’t care about the data transmission speed then you should purchase external hard disk to enjoy portability. You can carry external hard disk with you very easily.
  • As USB hard disk is compatible with almost all computers, so you should buy external USB hard disk if you want to use that hard drive for multiple computers.
  • If you prefer high speed external hard disks then you should purchase eSATA portable disks but remember they need some additional hard disk and driver so you cannot use them with all computers.

This post is totally based on suggestions of some experts and my personal experience. Your experience may be different, in that case I will like to get your valuable suggestions in comment section here so that they can add more useful information for readers.

This article is specially for those who wants to buy Nokia devices but due to some recent news and popularity issues, they choose Android.

It is really controversial to say that Nokia OS is better than Android but some facts can never be ignored. And I have 5 such facts for discussion which proves Nokia Symbian Devices are better than Android.

You may deny my claim due to some recent news about fallback and decreasing popularity of Nokia but after reading this article, you will agree with me. You may have heard that Nokia sacked down 10,000 employees and also shut down some plants. But this does not mean that Nokia symbian OS is not as well as compared to Android. It just means that Nokia devices are not being sold as much as earlier and this depends on many facts like marketing is one of these.

You can’t ignore that Android is Google’s product, so it is gaining more marketing due to Internet services monopoly. But I am leaving this matter for discussion for another time. Now, my aim is to make you face the reality which matters the most to you.

Now a days, many people are going for Android devices (among which Samsung is #1 in smartphones), but it does not mean that you too should buy an Android device if you want to have a smartphone. You should judge your need and then you should decide which will suite you better. I am discussing 5 evergreen facts that will tell you why Nokia OS, Symbian is still better than Android.

1. Full Control Over Applications

Control over Applications on AndroidNokia Symbian OS provides you full control over all applications. Applications in Nokia Symbian devices don’t start running in background without your knowledge like Android devices. There are lots of unwanted applications in Android which runs in background and you can not stop them permanently without uninstalling them.

If you are already a S60 user, then you may better understand by installing ‘whatsapp’ in your Nokia S60 device. You will see that whatsapp will restart every time automatically when you will close that. This is the problem you will face for many applications in Android. If you want to use any application then it is okay for but if you don’t need some applications and even if then they start running, this may irritate you. But in Nokia s60 devices, you have full control of all applications.

2. Battery Backup

Battery Backup on AndroidNokia smartphones have much more battery backup as compared to Android devices. And you will need to start finding out solutions for extending your battery back up in Android devices. If you have any doubt about this, you can confirm from Android device holders.

One more thing they say that Android devices gives so many features so it has to use more battery power. At this point, I am agreeing but can anyone tell me why these devices are sucking our battery life with some applications which we do not require? And even if they are providing more features for sucking battery then I will say that they need to do some work on extending battery life too.

So, if you are a always connected to Internet then be aware that you will need to recharge your device battery atleast twice a day. But all Nokia Symbian devices does not use so much battery power. If you want to use a smartphone for all useful applications then you should go for Nokia Symbian OS devices, because they too have all useful and basic applications which you need and have more battery life for using them.

3. Enough Internal Memory

External Memory on AndroidThis is the best thing about Nokia, I realized just after switching to Android. Same applications, have larger size for Android devices as compared to Android devices. And therefore, same applications need less internal memory in Nokia Symbian smartphones for installation. This makes internal memory enough for installing more application in Nokia smartphones.

While more than 70% of Android devices have low internal memory problems after installing few applications. So, even on having uncountable Android applications you can use only few at a time.

4. Privacy and Security

After all, your privacy comes first! Would you like to give access of your private messages to some one else ? As Android is an open source operating system and therefore anyone can create any application easily. So, it is very difficult to identify the untrusted applications. These applications may be very dangerous to your privacy and can steal your private information for misuse.

5. No Unwanted Data Cost

If you have a data plan on your Android device then many background applications starts sucking your data too, just like battery. As many applications start running in background, and some of them are applications which uses internet data. These applications will start charging you unwanted data cost. But Nokia devices does not use internet without your permissions. They use internet data only when you use any application which uses internet data.

All these are the facts you can’t ignore even after increasing popularity of Android devices. So, I will not recommend you to go for Android devices or Nokia devices. I will just say that judge your requirements and then decide which is best for you. I hope this article will help you to think about Nokia smartphones once again.
