Finding What to Edit

On frontend we can see where changes have to be made. Now, we have to figure out how is it coded in backend.

To do that, you can either view Page Source (Press CTRL+U) or use Web Developer tool to inspect elements. Though Firefox has a feature but I prefer Chrome Developer tool.

Just right click on element you want to edit and select Inspect Element. Browser will show you the code responsible for the selected appearance.

Where to Edit

Now, you have found the code which has to be changed but you do not know in which file it is written. If it is a obvious thing like “Logo”, it will be surely in header.php.

For those, who have basic understanding about WordPress themes structure, it will be easy to guess but sometimes with some themes, things can get little complicated.

So to end the guessing game, I suggest a tool which can look for text string in multiple text files from a folder. It is called FileSeek. Just enter the code you are looking for in query and specify folder/path where theme files are stored.

How to Edit

Even Notepad will do but we are dealing with codes so, a sophisticated Code editor is recommended. I prefer Sublime Text 2 for the purpose which has color markups and nice interface with easy navigation features.

That’s all. Only thing now you need is intelligence and luck (in case of newbie) so that you don’t screw up.

First impression out of the Box

Circular design and elegant display with numerous watch faces gives it an appearance of a real normal watch. So, in the urge of wearing a smartwatch, you are not trading style-statement of wearing an actual old-school watch.

Moto 360 runs on Android Wear which is a platform by Google for Wearable gadgets. On starting up, it asks to install Android Wear on your phone so that it can connect and sync information.

What is its Usability?

Concept is fairly new and hence the question. It is a watch that goes beyond being just a time piece- an information gadget which you can wear on your wrist.

It has an inbuilt Pedometer and Heart Beat meter which keeps track of steps walked and heart rate respectively. Most of the people buy a smart watch for health and fitness purpose only. No, not me.. I am just an enthusiast, an early adopter of technology.

Being connected to your phone, you can opt to get notifications on watch for Facebook, WhatsApp, Hangout Chat, etc. So, you don’t have to open phone or take it out from pocket every time it pings. Makes ignoring unimportant stuff easy while important ones can be replied from there itself.

Not a virtual keyboard (obviously, you cannot type text on that 1.5 inch screen), but you can send a text reply to messages using the voice typing feature.

And did I tell you that it can be voice commanded just like any other Android Smartphone by saying “OK Google”.

Where does it get Power from?

Moto 360 came with a wireless charging dock. I just have to place it on the dock and it starts charging without plugging anything. Cool?

It is powered by 320mAh battery which can run it for a day (as claimed) but in reality it doesn’t. If you keep on poking it,it lasts hardly for 8 hours on heavy usage. So, you have one more device to remember to get charged before leaving.

While it is charging, it is just a watch displaying time and nothing else. Screen stops reacting to your touch and tap. So, it doubles as a bedside clock.

Is it For You?

Yes, if:

1. You want notifications but you don’t want to spend tons of time on your phone.
2. You want a timepiece that actually does something without paying much more for it.
3. You want a watch you can upgrade and customize.

Overall, I feel that Motorola has given a great thought towards designing. Wearable, in my opinion, should compliment your personality because it will always be on hand and Moto 360 does that. Beautiful, comfortable, lightweight digital timepiece!

I do not call myself a tech guru because even I am learning with you and and use Blogsolute to share what I learn. This article contributes to the same category.

Recently, I applied for an upgrade to 10MBbs plan and billing started very next month. Please mind my words, just the billing of upgrade plan started. Actual upgrade didn’t happen. Yes, I was continuing to receive merely 4Mbps as per previous plan.

After visiting their office, they said there might be technical issue temporarily or the distance of your home might be too far from the telephone exchange causing speed loss.

Why I wasn’t getting 8 Mbps even after paying for it?

Answers given by them weren’t satisfactory so I started searching about it online when I came to know about types of ADSL connections. My broadband connection was using ADSL or ADSL1 line which is brought via telephone’s copper wire. Maximum limit of this line is 8Mbps but due to quality of cabling, it could yield just 4mbps at max.

None of the ISP in India offer classification of plans according to lines but I landed on this site when I realized about the cost and quality difference.

Even ADSL connection have certain Types

• ADSL/ADSL1 which I currently have coming through copper cable with maximum of 4mbps connection.
• ADSL2 which offers upto 12 MBps connection. Also comes via copper cable but requires high end infrastructure on both ends.
• ADSL2+ doubles the speed offered by ADSL2 i.e. 24 Mbps.

Why is Upload Speed less than Download

Before answering, let me tell you what does ADSL mean. It is an abbreviated form for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. Asymmetric means download speed cannot be same as upload. For home users who generally consume data and do not send much, ADSL is perfect. For business owners who send data to servers, SSDL (symmetric Digital subscriber line) is suitable.

Why Skype Video delayed even on 4 Mbps Connection

Skype video calling requires downloading and uploading at the same time. As I mentioned in above answer, download isn’t equal to upload speed, person on other side might face problem with your video.

Also, it highly depends on ping of connection. This signifies how fast your request is sent – processed – and received back. This again depends upon the distance of cable coming to your home. Understand and test broadband connection.

What I Settled down with?

Current service provider was in no way going to upgrade their infrastructure to ADSL2 or ADSL2+ for a single customer so I switched my ISP. I chose cable modem connection which uses Fiber optics and offers 8MBps with less than a ping of 45 milliseconds. Yes, that’s the beauty of Fiber optics where distance doesn’t hurt much at the customer’s end.

I would have never come to know about this issue or simply I would have never took efforts to research about it. This bad incident made me a wise customer who can at least argue next time internet service provider says something.

Easy copy-cut-paste functionality. No need to tap on words again and again to select for editing any post. Moving cursor while selecting characters is sometimes difficult especially on low end phones with bad touch response. Adatxt offers buttons to handle that for you.

Keyboard customization: Though it has few themes based on festival, color and events but you can even customize each element yourself. This includes color, gradient, size of buttons and even Fonts.

My Opinion: I consider myself pretty good at Virtual keyboards. Predictions on Adaptxt were pretty accurate and typing experience was fluid. Using Hinglish (which is Hindi + English) for most of the conversations and impressed with the suggestions provided by the keyboard. Language can be switched with just a swipe on spacebar which again saves keystrokes.

Only thing you will miss (if on Android 4.4 Kitkat) is emoji support.

Using Google keyboard till now which I considered to be fastest Android keyboard but industry keeps changing, innovations keep coming. Adaptxt deserves a free trial on your device for sure if you do not believe my words. Later on can be purchased for 0.99$ from Play store.

Free Alternative: Swiftkey has just announced that it will be completely free. Gives a close competition but with few shortcomings as compared to Adaptxt.

• Find and delete large amount of data is used to find large files on your computer and delete them permanently. Helps in gaining more disk space and create a room for new files. Large files on your computer can be your movies, TV shows, data backup and other important things. Use this feature carefully. In case you mess up with this feature, you may delete your important files.

Select drive you want to analyze for large files and data. Click Next to start the process.  As you can see, most of the large files are movies. You can analyze and delete files from here.

• Securely Delete data – When you delete any file from your computer, it goes to recycle bin. Even, if you have used Shift + Del. Still, that file is recoverable. To permanently throw away files from your computer, use this feature. Files deleted by this program are not recoverable. It is particularly helpful when you want to destroy an amount of information which is private.

Once you click “Next.” TuneUp will start deleting files from your selected location. Now, that is all about Clean up options in TuneUp Utilities 2014.

Fix Problems

Fix Problems option in TuneUp Utilities helps in fixing common problems which can occur while using Windows.

• Fix common problems like- Icons are displayed incorrectly, Recycle Bin icon is no longer displayed, Taskbar cannot be displayed etc. You can easily fix these problems with this feature of TuneUp Utilities.

Select the problem which you are facing. Click “Next” and your problem is resolved. These are the problems which most of the users face most of the time. You may not find all problems, because you never know – Which problem occurs suddenly at a given point of time.

• Check Hard disk for errors is a very useful option. It prevents bad sectors on your Hard Drive. Do this optimization, thrice a month can prevent your hard disk from bad sectors and failure. TuneUp says my hard drive don’t have any errors. But if you drive has then select Normal Analysis and optimize your drives. TuneUp will remove all the errors in one go.

• Restore Deleted Files – As the name suggests, it is used to restore/recover permanently deleted files. Which are deleted using Shift + Del or from recycle bin?

Use restoring search criteria to filter your search. You can give extension of the file. For example – .TXT, .DOC, .MKV etc. You can also search for 0 byte files by selecting the option Search for 0 byte size files. You can also refine your search by file’s condition.

Once, the search is completed. TuneUp will show you all deleted files from your specified location.

Select the file you want to restore and click on Restore button. TuneUp will ask you – if you want to restore the file at its original location or you want to specify an alternate location.

• Display and close running process – Close running process and save memory for other programs. This feature will let you display and close programs without opening the Windows default Task Manager.

• Show system information is used to display complete information of your computer like- Hardware in use, Software information etc.

Personalize

Personalize option helps you to personalize Windows experience. It helps users to apply various themes and icon sets. You can use default themes comes with TuneUp Utilities. And you can also download themes from TuneUp website.

You can switch between Economy, Standard and Turbo mode. These modes are configured by default. You can configure them according to your requirements. These settings may vary from user to user depending on factors like System Specifications and Internet speed.

My Experience with TuneUp Utilities 2014

The best thing about TuneUp is that it is totally automated. All I had to do is, setup the functionality according to my needs. It provides all the necessary recommendations and changes needed. The UI was very simple and it is a great improvement over the previous versions. It covers all aspects of Windows Pc maintenance. After using Tuneup Utilities I can feel the difference in my Pc’s performance. Now its faster and more responsive.

In my opinion TuneUp Utilities should include Driver Updater tool and Game Booster in future versions. Well, it will be nice to have it because updated drivers do make a lot of difference when performance is in spot light. TuneUp already provides live optimization and Turbo mode but a Game booster with recommendations will be of great help for gamers struggling to get the peak performance.

Most media players available can play all popular formats. Even the default Windows media player can do so if there are required codecs available.

User expects more than just playback compatibility and that’s where VLC lacks.

1. Difficult Keyboard Control

Out of the box, hot keys for VLC are very confusing or uncomfortable I will say. I prefer jumping forward by pressing “Right Arrow” which is obvious to many of you. VLC is totally different in this case, you need to press combination of keys.
Though they are customizable but it why it isn’t default?

2. Boring Interface

This is the reason why many users do not prefer Media Player Classic which takes you back to the era of Windows 98. VLC has recently did some work on appearance and brought Skin feature but lacks modernity.

Take a look at GOM Player or Daum PotPlayer‘s interface to know the difference.

3. No external Codec support

VLC has inbuilt codec support and doesn’t support any codec or filters outside their library. If something cannot be decoded by its own codec library, it cannot be played on VLC. That’s a rare possibility but what about performance?

There are some audio streams like AC3 which can be decoded by some codec to give better sound quality than the one inbuilt in VLC. Also, problem can be noticed while seek positioning HD videos. VLC lags or do not properly positions in case of forwarding or moving backward. This is because, though the codec has capability to decode but it is not the best choice.

GOM Player on other side lets you choose codec of your choice. If you do not understand, it finds the one compatible and best for playback on web and downloads it.

This might be the reason GOM installer size is 30% lesser than VLC.

4. Subtitle Editor

Though subtitles are supported, but you cannot edit them in anyway in VLC.

Also, if you like to customize the speed or the size of subtitles, option isn’t available right away. One has to enter Tools and Preferences to do it if you do not remember the Hotkey. In GOM Player however, these options are readily available on right click context menu during video playback.

5. Remote Control app for Android

I like to watch movies sitting away from Computer screen so definitely need control remotely. VLC has no official remote control application and the ones available aren’t as sophisticated as GOM Remote control for Android.

Tinted StatusBar is a Xposed App module. It can change the status bar color to match the opened app’s background color. Once you close the app the color will change back to default. This feature gives cool overall visual appearance. To get the Tinted Statusbar module you have to install Xposed app first. Since we have not covered that part earlier, in this article I will be walking you through it briefly.

Xposed Framework for Android

This framework allows you to modify many features in Android without changing the ROM or going through any hideous processes. Now this Xposed Framework allows many modules to work and modify the android behavior. It comes with a bunch of modules like Icon Themer, Per App DPI changer, Full screen caller ID, Battery icon mod etc. The number of mods exceeds a dozen. So you can enjoy wailing your Android tweaking time.

Installing Xposed Framework

Installing it is very easy. Its just like installing just another android app. The main thing here is to get your device rooted, if you still haven’t. Are you still thinking is it worth Rooting Android Smartphone if not changing ROM?

Head over to XDA forum and download Xposed Framework. Detailed instructions can be found in that thread too. Copy the APK file and install it. After installation of APK file you need to install the framework from within.

Tap on Install/Update. Once it installs, you need to make a system restart. On next run tap on the Modules tab to see the present modules. You can install any module available for Xposed Framework.

Modules will be available in form of APK’s. Once installed they start appearing in the module section of the framework. Configurable modules gets separate entries on framework main page. You will be notified with available module updates.

Tinted StatusBar Xposed Module

Now that you are familiar with the framework, we can move quickly through module installation. Download Tinted StatusBar and install it. Activate it from module list. You must reboot your phone once after you activated the module. The above image shows my default statusbar color.

Presently Tinted StatusBar is in early Beta stage and it supports very few apps. As it is an under development app in XDA I strongly believe that soon we are going to see a version covering most of the commonly used apps. The reason for so is that the users are already helping out in making the app addition process quicker.
