How To Remove GOM Player Pop-Up Ads And Browser Toolbar

I have been using GOM player from a long time now for the obvious reason- its versatility. Recent update however, came with Pop-Up ad window which comes up when I exit and also it forcibly install unwanted Browser Toolbar (AVG or Ask in some versions).

I agree that when product is offered for free, they somehow need to earn something from Advertisements but these ads are quite annoying for the sole reason- they are irrelevant and not interesting. Here is a solution by which you can block or remove Pop-Up Advertisement on GOM player.

How to Block and Remove Pop-Up Ads from GOM Player

To Remove Popup, you just have remove the file responsible for creating this Pop-Up. And this File is located in Installation Folder.

Go to C:\Program Files\GRETECH\GomPlayer. It can be Program Files (x86) in case of 64 Bit Widows installation. Find the file named: popup.exe in this folder and delete it. Make sure you are logged in as Administrator to carry out this operation.

This is a permanent solution to get rid of pop-ups on GOM player but if you think that you may find something interesting someday on these ads then it can also be done. You can see the popup once a day by checking on “Don’t show any more ads today” at the bottom of popup window.

How to Remove Toolbar installed with GOM Player

Here’s a solution by which you can search files in Google drive right from Gmail search bar without leaving or opening new tab.

How to Extend Gmail Search to Google Drive

Open Gmail account and Go to Gmail Settings from the Gear icon on top right.
Click on “Labs”
Enter “Apps Search” in Search Box.
Click on “Enable” radio button.
Now, click Save Changes button.

That’s all. Gmail will reload and relogin and you are ready to use extended Search to find files in Google Drive right from Gmail Search Bar.

Hard Disks aren’t passé yet mainly because of its low cost compared to SSDs. But Problem with these HDs is the speed which is usually related to the mechanical components of Hard Drive used for reading and writing data on disk sectors.

Performance degrades day by day, since the other PC items depend on the data stored on the HD. Of course, this slowing down is much more aggravating for the most demanding applications and games. To circumvent the problem, here are some quick tips to accelerate performance of Hard Drives.

Setup and Physical Maintenance of Hard Disk

Check if disk is properly screwed and installed source provides sufficient power to run.
Make Sure there are no Jumper misconfiguration. It is recommended to set the Hard Disk as Master.
If your motherboard is compatible with SATA drives, please use the latest standard supported and make sure the HD is not configured to operate in compatibility mode.
Enter the BIOS and see if the configuration is correct. Make Sure that the option “Block Mode” is enabled.

Before Installing Linux

If you are performing a new installation of Linux, create the swap partition before the root. Follow the recommendations of the distribution you are installing. The Penguin operating system needs blocks of the first hard drive to work with temporary files. This speeds up your computer performance considerably.

Windows Setup

At the time of installing Windows, you should do it in a separate partition. So, before you begin the process, partition your hard disk, leaving considerable space for the system essential programs and temporary files.

Let’s take an example: if your drive has 500 GB, 100 GB worth leaving for the installation of Windows. The remaining nearly 400 GB should make the secondary partition, which will serve to store your documents and prevent data loss in situations that need to reinstall the operating system.

Microsoft’s system stores temporary files in a paging file. If your computer has at least 8 GB of RAM, you can disable this feature. However, if not, then follow the steps below to set PageFile configuration:

Go to Start Menu >> Properties of Computer
On Windows System Properties, click on “Advanced Settings” on left pane.
In Advanced Tab, Click on “Settings” button in Performance.
Again, under Advance Tab, Click on “Change” Button under Virtual Memory Options.
Uncheck “Automatically manage Paging File size” and select “Custom Size”
In the “Initial Size“, enter at least 1024 MB for the system to unload the kernel in an emergency. In “Maximum Size“, enter 1.5 Times the amount of RAM installed. For example: I have 4GB of RAM on my system so, for me it will be 4×1.5=6GB i.e. 6144 MB

Having installed the drive correctly and configured the system to use it optimally, you just have to do the occasional defragmentation. This process helps to organize the data from the HD, which facilitates procedures for reading and writing.

In Options > Setup Guide, click the down arrow next to “Your upload speed” and choose an amount equivalent to 80% of the maximum upload speed of your connection (use SpeedTest to find it). Click “Save & Close” to exit.

Change Maximum Number of Peers and Connections

Well, you guys might have been wondering how to edit .9.png or how to make a stretchable png file which a phone’s firmware can understand. Basically .9.png is a stretchable image used for buttons, backgrounds, title bars, etc. and its bit weird to understand. So here I present a guide which would help you guys in editing those files easily.

Things required to Edit a.9.png Image

Let’s start from a list which will be needed for the task:

An Image Editor ( I prefer Adobe CS5 ).
You need AndroidSdk installed for getting the Draw9patch.bat
And you need really a good patience so that your work goes in ease.

Getting Started

Step 1 :

Open your .9.png in image editor, as you can see below I opened it in Adobe Photoshop Cs5.

Now you might think, what are the black dots in the border! So, exactly I was coming to that point. Those black dots are for Deciding Height, Width and the touch area. Like if you guys see in the left side there is a dot. so that decides the Vertical content and the Upper side Decides the Horizontal content to shown. Both the right side and lower side decides content to touch.

The very next thing is to edit the image, select the whole image which doesn’t include those black dots and lines.

Edit it as you want.

Save it as it is in the form of png (.9.png should be the extension).

So Step 1 is done now only 1 step remains. sometimes you won’t even have to do this but it’s better to do because, it can cause error.

Step 2:

Open draw9patch.bat from your AndroidSdk/tools by double clicking on draw9patch.bat
Wait for few seconds or minutes, a java window will pop out with an arrow Something like this.

Now drag your file to this Java window.
There should be the DOTS and LINES out there, if there aren’t then you can see the image and copy it same like that , but it depends on your PNG what PNG you opened for:

For adding dots / lines you can simply click on the corners.
For Deleting you just have to press SHIFT and CLICK on the corners WHERE dots/lines are there.

So after you are done adjusting your .9.png only one thing is left now is to save the file. Congratulations you are done with your editing of .9.png.

So the main thing is to draw9patch.bat things. You can create any image once you get the correct resolution.

Where to find the .9.png?

Ans : You can find in all of your APK files which has graphics. The images used in these are of .9.png format.

Some Images I have in my Firmware isn’t having any kind of dots or lines?

Ans : Some of the new firmware like DDKQ8 or if you are porting from SGSII roms or any other armv7 type of phone then they have a smart .9.png so the dots and lines got vanished. They are recompiled due to which the dots disappeared. Editing these kind of .9.png files will be discussed later, may be in some other tutorial.
