Picasa, acquired by Google is a free photo editing software that makes your pictures look stunning and at the same time provides easy sharing option.  Picasa needs a simple Intel CPU to run and remains compatible with Linux, Windows and Mac OS.

Photoshop, on the other hand is a very powerful photo editing and creating tool that helps portray your memories in the process automatically organizing and protecting them. But more features do not make Photoshop better, it is because a regular user fails to understand and thus use such advanced formatting tools.

Apart from technological handicap, while using Photoshop another problem that seemed to arise was its requirement of multicore Intel processor and 1 GB RAM, which my grandmother’s Gen PC could not provide. It is also listed as one of the difficult software to use.

Picasa becomes the next door tool with its simple yet phenomenal editing tools like in-built fixes, tuning, geo –tagging, may it be of units or blocks and not to forget basic photo editing needs.

Though Photoshop provides excellent social media sharing and it supports wider range of file types, the ease and simplicity of Picasa more than covers up for it with astonishing features like rich – multihued color themes and scripting which are not provided by Photoshop (by default).

One may argue that GIMP is no doubt the best free alternative for Photoshop but let me tell you the intention of this article isn’t to provide you exact alternative of Photoshop. By saying, Poor man’s Photoshop, I am not just pointing out to free software but emphasizing on ease of use.

Picasa is easily integrated, trouble free and undemanding. Having used both Photoshop and Picasa I realized that while Photoshop is technically very sound and provides advanced photo edits like masks, layers and photo re-sizing freeware it is a bit complicated for gullible users. Thus, Picasa by far remains the poor man’s Photoshop.

The depth of the thought extended and as the line went ahead, as I started analyzing why Twitter has not made it “huge” in the Indian market as its fierce competitor Facebook.  A question then popped up – “Is Twitter not meant for Indian crowd?”

The answer was like a bolt from the blue. The Business Development VP of Twitter said that “Twitter is not a social network, it’s a place to get fast Instagram views and get your opinion across all social media platforms, rather it is a NEWS network”. (No this is not a TYPO!!) From a certain faraway point, we might just agree to Thaus’ comment, for how many times do we see NEWS update on Facebook.

The comment made it clearer, why Twitter has seen such cold shoulder from the Indian crowd. Marketers’ need to understand and create an inclusive niche reaching out to potential non-users primarily and then assemble its clientele.

Following are the major reasons I noticed why Indian People join Twitter:

• There is a buzz around about the word ‘Twitter’ and they just want to know about it.
  Thanks to Print and Digital Media.
• Their favorite Celebrity is now in Twitter so, they just hope to have a conversation with them.
  But, Twitter is not Chat.
• Bought a new smartphone and there is a bird icon application on Homescreen.
  Just because it is there, let’s try it out.
• Twitter is just another social network like Orkut or Facebook.
  Unfortunately, the answer is No.

The above assumptions then create problems for them to adapt with Twitter. Expectations aren’t met and then conclusion is derived that Twitter isn’t meant for them.

Indian crowd remains social at Facebook, creating new updates with chipped nails, broken stilettos’, lost and won CS and PS and claims its NEWS updates from either Arnab Goswami and his heated debates or  NDTV and AajTak. It has been less of an attempt to receive personalized news feeds, since Twitter is a NEWS network. That might be the reason ‘the bird’ credibility lies at the equator.
