Macs are fast and efficient computers, and Apple’s engineers are working to improve these devices every year and come up with even more powerful operating systems like macOS Big Sur.

However, if you own an older Mac and notice that after upgrading it to the newest macOS, the computer has slowed down, you might want to downgrade from macOS Big Sur and consider renewing your computer in the future.

And for those of you who have successfully upgraded to the macOS Big Sur, we have a great set of practical tips & tricks for the operating system.

Tip #1: Use the Control Center Widget

One of the most significant changes in macOS Big Sur is the Control Center widget that has been available on iPad and iPhone for years now and proved itself very convenient.

From now on, it is easier to access all of the important settings. To open the Control Center widget, simply click on the toggle icon on the upper right side of the screen. More to it, you can change which settings are displayed once you open the menu.

Tip #2: Enjoy the New Wallpapers

With each new macOS, Apple adds new wallpapers for its user’s enjoyment. To start using the newly designer desktop wallpapers, you do not need to download them from anywhere.

If you want to change the wallpaper, click the Apple icon from the top menu, choose System Preferences, and navigate to the General options. You can choose to use a dynamic wallpaper that changes according to the daytime or a still one.

Tip #3: Set the Color Scheme

The macOS Big Sur comes with a new multicolor scheme. To edit the multicolor option and choose the color for the main accent, you need to open the System Preferences menu and go to the General options.

Here, choose the first icon to pick the accent color that will determine how such items as buttons will look like. In addition, you can also tint the default wallpaper.

Tip #4: Speak Typing Feedback

If you have issues with your vision, you can now enable an option called Speak Typing Feedback to read out loud whatever you have just typed.

Even if you don’t have problems with your eyesight but tend to leave many typing mistakes, this feature could save you some editing time. To enable this option, go to the System Preferences, click Accessibility, choose Spoken Content, and check the box next to the “Speak Typing Feedback” option.

Tip #5: Check the Battery’s Condition

macOS has had the option that lets you check your Mac’s battery condition for a while now, but with macOS Big Sur, the data is more detailed than ever. If you want to see your battery usage statistics and condition, click on the battery icon located at the top-right menu and choose the Battery Preferences option.

Here, you can view the Usage History for the last 24 hours or the last ten days that show you battery levels and screen on usage. Also, you can choose when you want to display off and other battery saving options.

Tip #6: Turn Off the Startup Sound

With the new macOS Big Sur, Apple has finally renewed Mac’s startup sound after many years. However, if you do not like the sound, you can turn it off.

To turn off the startup sound, click the Apple icon from the top menu, go to the System Preferences menu, and in the Sound options, uncheck the box next to the Play sound on the startup option.

Tip #7: Add Controls to the Menu Bar

If you wish to access specific controls even faster, you can remove them from the Control Center and pin them to the menu bar at the top of the screen. One of the two ways to do it is by dragging an icon from the Control Center straight to the menu bar where you want to place it.

Another way to edit your controls is by clicking the Apple icon, going to the System Preferences, and choosing the Dock & Menu Bar option. You should then navigate to the Control Center option, select the control you want to appear in the menu bar, and check the box next to the option “Show in Menu Bar.”

Tip #8: Open Notifications & Widgets in the Same Menu

Another new feature you can use is viewing the widgets and notifications in the same menu. To do so, you need to click on the date from the top menu, and it will let you view a list of widgets and notifications.

If you want to open an app that is related to a certain widget, simply click on the widget and it will navigate you to the desired app, same with the notifications.

Digitization has made everything seem very easy, quick, and efficient. What many of us tend to overlook is the downside that comes with this innovation. Digitization and automation of nearly all the phases of our existence comes with an all-time crisis known as device vulnerability.

Most digital devices are home to lots of private data and information, this makes cybersecurity an issue of serious concern. If this information lands into the wrong hands, the damages could be dire.

Fortunately, securing your device is not difficult. You can use the help of some tools along with other good habits like setting stronger passwords and installing updates regularly.

Selecting the ideal tools can be overwhelming, especially for a beginner. First, the market is flooded with hundreds of security tools: second, you may not know which the right tool is if you do not have a good understanding of the threats that are at hand.

To help you make an informed decision, we will walk you through the major cyber risks and the recommended security tools that will help you keep your devices safe.

3 Major Cyber threats facing the public in 2020

Phishing

In a phishing attack, targets are contacted through email or SMS, and recently WhatsApp messages. These messages are from a criminal impersonating an important or legitimate contact.

The motive of the malicious message is to lure unsuspecting individuals into clicking a malicious link which redirects them to a fraudulent site where sensitive data such banking and credit card information is stolen through a process known as data harvesting.

The common features of a phishing message include hyperlinks, the information may be too good to be true, or it may contain malicious attachments. On 15th July 2020, and following the declaration of coronavirus as a global pandemic, attackers exploited California’s contact tracing program to launch a phishing attack that leveraged on the program.

Ransomware

A ransomware attack is a money-making strategy where attackers invade your devices and hold the systems to deny you access. They then demand a certain payment known as a ‘ransom’. In most cases, ransomware attackers demand that the payment be made in cryptocurrencies.

This attack can find its way into your device through a deceptive link or a pop-up message. A defence contractor was in January 2020, forced to go offline following a ransomware attack. The CPI-California company was so affected by the attack, that despite parting with a ransom fee of approximately $500,000 it still wasn’t able to resume its operations by March 2020.

Cryptojacking

This can be defined as unauthorized and illegal mining or stealing of cryptocurrencies. Criminals do this by hacking into a personal device such as a smartphone, or a tablet.

Cryptohackers can take advantage of any situation to spread their crypto-mining malware. For instance, when many people were mourning the death of famous basketball star Kobe Bryant, hackers staged his wallpaper which had a malicious code containing a harmful Trojan which once clicked on, would redirect victims to a malicious crypto-jacking website.

Security tools to protect yourself

It is impossible to discuss device security without mentioning an antivirus. However, as seen in the threats discussed above, the vulnerability landscape has changed. You need additional tools to remain and keep your devices safe.

Here are essential tools to protect yourself.

Email security

Email security tools scan all contents of an email to detect any potential threats and prevent them from making unauthorized access. Some of the security methods used by email security tools include mail encryption, the establishment of access controls and setting up email servers.

These moves secure the user’s information and email accounts from hackers and other cybercriminals.

A VPN

You can also beef up your security by using a VPN. A virtual private network protects you by securing all your internet traffic. Your data is further secured using a data encryption technology which makes it unreadable by third parties.

Unlike many software, a VPN can be easily downloaded from a service provider’s website. The installation process is also easy and quick.

An Adblocker

An ad blocker is a security tool that protects you from being spammed with malicious pop-up ads and messages. Most ad-blocking tools are extensions and are compatible with popular browsers.

Given that an average person sees approximately 4000 ads a day, this security tool is an effective way to put an end to the disturbance and the risks that come with it.

Anti-spyware software

Anti-spyware software is a security tool that fights and protects you from threats that may be secretly spying on your online activities. These threats include password recorders and key loggers which run in the background; secretly snooping on passwords, usernames and other personal data.

Conclusion

If you are using your IoT device to access sensitive data, you must remain vigilant. Many dangers can happen if these devices are left unsecured. Understand the current vulnerabilities, then move with speed to stay ahead of the cybercriminals.

Financial management and budgeting are important for businesses of all sizes and industries. For new businesses, having a budget and managing it is extremely vital to ensure the business runs smoothly.

An effective budget is important if you care about your business’s future and where it is going. A budget helps you make better decisions and it helps you understand which problem areas need to be worked on. However, budgeting isn’t easy especially for newcomers because there is so much there to be considered. There are some tips and strategies that will help you create and manage a budget for your startup.

You need to understand your business before you can effectively create a budget and manage it properly. That is, what type of business are you running? This will give you an idea about the type of budget that you should choose because there are so many types of budgets out there. For example, if you have a business that is seasonal then you will prefer creating a budget for each month or a few months clustered together such as quarterly. You want to think about the laws and regulations before you create a budget for your new business as this will impact the way you need to manage it.

The problem of many business owners is they do not take the time to create a realistic budget. A budget is not just a number game as many tend to believe. It is about how to manage money and everything associated with it.  This sounds easy on paper but is difficult when putting to practice. If you have started your business and you have some numbers to work with, then use that information to create the budget. If not, then you want to take all the factors into consideration. You can overestimate expenses because as you are operating you might have unexpected expenses and you don’t want your business to be crippled because of that.

There is always going to be something that will just come out of the blue. While you can think of all the things that can possibly go wrong, business is all about being able to handle the worst at the most unexpected time. This is why you should manage a budget by thinking about the future of the business. If you do well in a year then you will have a balanced budget. But instead of spending on things you know you can do without in your business, there is nothing wrong with saving up for the time when the economy won’t be so favorable to your business. You want to ensure that you do keep these things into account when you are creating a budget.

Startup business owners make the mistake of creating a budget by themselves without involving anyone else. Don’t be that person. While you may think you can assume the role of a money manager, it is best if you build a team when creating and managing a budget. Different employees will better know about when machinery needs replacement and they might be able to provide helpful insights that can truly make a difference to the budget. Involve your employees and you will be able to think outside the box. It will enable you to think creatively and better be able to manage your budget as there are many perspectives on the table.

How to implement financial management in your business?

Firstly, you should create a detailed budget so that you can understand it better when things don’t go as planned or something that you may have not accounted for in your budget comes up. While you can make a general budget, a detailed one makes it easier for you during the time of analysis. A budget is not set in stone so there is nothing wrong with being flexible when creating it. Circumstances will change and events will happen that might require you to change your budget. Be ready for that and don’t feel like you have failed at creating and managing a budget. Your budget will change according to how things play out and amending it is not the end of the world.

You should keep in mind that you are using the right tool for creating a budget. Instead of creating a budget and managing it in Excel, it is helpful for new businesses to invest in a small business accounting software tool. You can find online accounting software that helps you effectively create and manage a budget. Choosing a software tool for budget management should not be done in a rush because budgeting is something that is continuously going to be an important part of your business. You want to ensure that the software tool is helpful and enables you to manage the budget and create one with ease.

When you are creating and managing your budget, you want to be strategic when doing it and this is where a good financial management system comes in. Goal setting plays a vital role in budgeting; both in creating it and managing it. Creating a budget and constantly referring to the goals is important because it will help you analyze better. You will be able to make better decisions as a result of that too. When you have a goal in your mind then you can think about what resources are required and you can then get detailed about the expected expenses. This will make it easier for you and help you know realistically about the expenses which will help you create a budget that makes sense.

You can see there are many factors to be considered when it comes to budget management. Budgeting is not a one time job and you need to continuously work on it for it to work well for your business. That being said, the factors above are important and should be kept in mind when you are building a budget for your business. You should have a clear mindset when you are budgeting and you should always be open to new ideas. Budget can help you have control which is why it is such a vital business tool that you should make good use of. When you work with a budget you can get a better perspective of how things are running so you can make changes accordingly.

Another one of the main aspects that fall under financial management is staying on top of deadlines. You must avoid any delay in bill payments to stay on top of your finance game, and you can do so by meeting deadlines. You can do so by recording your expenses, the dates where the payments are due, and set reminders for future payments so that you don’t fall behind.

The software your firm uses has an incredible impact on your business performance, so it is important to choose wisely. Purveyors of software are typically referred to as vendors or providers but they are more like business partners.

Whether you are looking for a comprehensive solution to implement throughout the company or a specific function like demand planning software, it can be very difficult to be sure you are selecting the best partner for you. Here are four questions to ask throughout the selection process.

What Can You Do For Us?

Before asking this question, figure out what you need. Generate a precise and exhaustive list of requirements. If the software you are considering offers solutions to every item on the list it will should be a perfect fit. However, you likely have information technology already in place, so be sure the new software will coordinate with legacy systems or replace them completely with little headache for users. Because each company is unique, be sure your IT experts will be able to make adjustments to fit your specific situation.

How Much Will It Cost—Really?

Every business project has a budget, and since most IT projects don’t directly generate income top executives may be less forgiving about overages. Be sure the price quote falls within the proper range even after all possible issues and add-ons have been included. Time is money so get a commitment regarding timeline too. If you need to go live with the new system in three months and they estimate six, you need to look elsewhere. Quick implementation may prove just as important as affordable pricing.

What Will We Receive?

When choosing software, your primary concern is functionality. To avoid costly legal troubles and embarrassing media attention, security should be the next priority. However, there is much more to it than that; the purchase will include more than a box to click and an install wizard. Professional installation on all hardware, user training and post-installation support are essential to successful implementation of any new IT system. No matter how sophisticated any aspect of technology is today, there will be a more robust version tomorrow, so obtain a guarantee of updates, patches and upgrades that will keep your firm current.

What Happens Next?

Companies have to be flexible enough to scale up, specialize, diversify, adapt and grow. Make sure the software will expand to accommodate the most likely eventualities. Read the fine print in all agreements and be aware what will happen if the firm transfers to another provider.

We live in a digital world where all our pictures, files, and information are stored on hard drives and clouds. This makes our lives more convenient, but it also makes stealing our information easier for hackers, the thieves of the internet. Hackers are always on the hunt for bank account numbers, passwords, and sensitive material that they can use to steal your identity.

When a hacker breaks into your computer, they gain access to all of your files and stored information. They can save or delete whatever they want just as if they were using your computer in your house, and they can download additional viruses.

In addition to the damage done by hacking, these cyber-attacks on individuals and companies cost between $375 and $575 billion per year. The worst part is most cyber criminals, including the most successful ones, are never caught. Hackers are operating freely all over the world and they continue to develop new methods for getting into people’s devices. It’s more important than ever to ensure that your technology is hacker proof.

Here are 5 of the best ways to keep hackers out of your devices and out of your life:

  1. Protect Your Passwords

Avoid keeping your passwords in an unprotected file on your phone or computer such as a note or a word file. Also, make sure not to keep them stored on an online service or app like Evernote or Google Docs. Consider writing them down in a notebook that you keep at home in a safe place, and make a copy and keep it in a locked drawer at work.

If you’d rather keep them in digital format, you can use a password manager such as LastPass or Password Boss to keep your passwords and online accounts secure. At the very least, do not use the same password for every website and do not use very obvious passwords that are easy to guess. These may be passwords with your kid’s name, your birthday, or the name of the website, for example. If it’s really easy for you to remember, it might be easy for someone else to figure out.

Also, it’s a good idea to change your passwords about every six months, especially for your important accounts.

  1. Use a VPN When Connecting to Wi-Fi

VPNs encrypt your information and make it impossible for anyone else to see what you’re doing online. This means they can’t determine which websites you’ve been using, and they can’t discover your passwords either. Using public Wi-Fi and hotspots is something a lot of people do frequently, but it’s more dangerous than most people realize.

Trusting someone else’s internet with your private online affairs exposes your activities and accounts to hackers. Using a VPN is one thing that can help keep you safe when connecting to these types of public networks. VPNs have many other functions and are commonly used to bypass censorships and access geo restricted content.

For example, you may have heard of people using a proxy to stream Netflix so they can watch their favorite movies and shows while in other countries. A VPN can help you stay safe and provide you with these additional benefits.

  1. Stick to Secure Websites

Hackers and their viruses lurk in the unsecured parts of the web, so it’s best to stick to using websites that are verified and secure. This is especially important when it comes to downloading files. You never want to download a file that comes from an untrustworthy website as it may be loaded with viruses.

These viruses are not only bad for your computer, but they can also unlock the door for hackers to enter and steal your information. A secure website uses HTTPS (think S for secure) and has a padlock icon to the left of the URL address. A green address and padlock indicates that you are using a very secure website that is safe to download files from.

If you can’t see any of this in your URL bar, consider using another website and definitely do not download anything.

  1. Screen Your Emails

One of the easiest ways to get a virus and make yourself vulnerable to hackers is to open unsolicited emails. Hackers and scammers often get into your computer by sending bad emails or by posing as legitimate organizations requesting information.

If you use a reputable email service like Gmail or Yahoo! Mail, most of these should end up in your spam folder before you even get to see them. However, they may not all be filtered out and can be confused with emails sent from websites and organizations that you regularly deal with and subscribe to.

Take the time to screen each email before opening it to ensure that the sender is someone you can trust, and don’t believe everything you read. The subject lines of these emails will often offer cash or prizes, or they’ll contain “urgent” messages regarding one of your accounts. Many of them are easy to spot, but some take a little more scrutinizing.

When in doubt, don’t open the email, and contact the organization directly to see what’s going on with your account.

  1. Install Anti-Virus Software

Anti-virus software is available for all devices and most operating systems including Windows and macOS. Many services allow you to protect your computers, tablets, and phones with a single subscription, giving you extra protection across all your gadgets.

Anti-virus software scans your device and all of your files for viruses before you open them. This greatly reduces your risk of getting a harmful virus and letting hackers in. Your anti-virus software will also frequently update its list of virus definitions to better identify viruses that can come in contact with your computer.

Some of the best paid anti-virus software today comes from companies like McAfee, Bitdefender, and Avast. There are several great free options as well if purchasing software is not in your budget right now.

If you want to be vigilant about the security of your information, it’s important that you take these five necessary steps as soon as possible. You are in control, and it’s up to you to use good judgement when downloading files, using public networks, and opening emails. In addition, make sure to keep your passwords in a secret, safe place and update them regularly. While it may seem like a lot of trouble, it’s worth saving yourself from the bigger problems that come from being hacked.

There are more than a few free data recovery software on the internet but not all of them can provide you with complete file recovery. Most file recovery software can only restore partial data, take way too long to restore a file and are overall agonizing to use.

I currently use an iPad, iPod Touch (for music), BlackBerry, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, one palmtop, a mini laptop and two highly sophisticated Laptops; not to talk of the highly powerful desktop I have in my study, and some of them I use them for work, but others is just for distracting, gaming and even online gambling since I found out I could Get £40 from Comparethebets with their exclusive bonus code so that hooked me. What kind of life is that? Don’t I sound crazy to you? Who in his right senses would know the right thing to do and still fail to do it? Only a crazy person of course; only that I am crazy with style and class; I AM ADDICTED!!! Oh my, Unthinkable!

And I am not alone; I have once read of a woman who deactivated her Facebook account because she was concerned with the amount of time she spent on it. She said what had started as her favorite hobby (an urge to share and chat) mystically turned into a demanding and anti- social addiction that had practically taken over her life. The last stoke that broke her camel’s back was when she completely forgot about a long-planned reunion with a friend one evening simply because she’d been sidetracked by mindless Facebooking.

Obsessed Addiction

Wouldn’t it have just been perfect if everything had stayed just at the obsession stage? After all, there’s the possibility you might be obsessed about or with something and still not get that thing to the point of being addicted to it. I don’t know; perhaps if I had not been financially capable to possess such gadgets, I wouldn’t have been so involved and implicated. I wish I just only was obsessed with them; at least, I could look at them from afar off and WISH. Nothing more!

[alert-note] Ways to Curb Facebook Addiction and Save Time Wastage [/alert-note]

Expert Perspective

gadget addiction

Presently, there is much wide-spread debate amongst psychiatrists and psychologists as to whether or not there is such thing as internet addiction. Some experts say it is becoming a major problem, and can be as destructive to a person’s life as an addiction to alcohol, gambling or pornography. There are worries about online games, social networking and virtual relationships replacing real-life friendships, there are so many it makes you feel like a Gaming Buffs and no slowing down in sight. Check out the small hands gaming mice which is perfect for those who have smaller hands. But others say that the very idea of being to a medium of communication is ludicrous. Theses supporters claim it is like ironically saying someone is a ‘language addict’ or ‘thinking addict’, which of course makes no sense. With easy availability of smartphones for sale in OLX India, masses of people have ready internet access anywhere and anytime.

A study conducted last year found that while mobile phones were valued as a way to stay productive, there were downsides to being available at all times. The survey of 2,254 adults found that 44 percent of cell-phone owners had slept with their phone next to their bed and that 67 percent had experienced ‘paranoid rings’, checking their phone even when it was not ringing or vibrating. Still, the proportion of cell-phone owners who said they could live without it went up to 37 percent compared to 29 percent in 2006.

The Human Brain

get rid of gadget addiction

The human brain uses a complex system of senses, thoughts, and feelings to help us survive our environment. Feelings, most precisely, play a very vital role in warning us that something may be wrong. The brain interprets all these signals and determines what, if any, action should be taken. What do you think would happen if that delicate system ceased to function properly? I’m not a psychology therapist or shrink, but I’m relatively sure it would be a real mess. Instead of processing our thoughts and feelings and doing something about them, we boot-up a gadget to help us do so. In other words, you are substituting your brain with a machine; little wonder we have Robots!

Technical Problems

get rid of office frustration

It’s a logical phenomenon; at work, you get pissed by your boss or worst still, a colleague; at home, your wife gets on your nerves or your kid does something real bad; on the road; you get annoyed by a bad driver; just name it, even tho you love your kids and your wife you may even had gotten intention bracelets for you and her. Still from time to time, each of us feels small, wronged and helplessly vulnerable; it’s only human. Under normal circumstances, you spend time comprehending, interpreting, and overcoming these feelings. But what if, instead of listening to your feelings and processing your thoughts, you play a video game, listen to your iPod, text or call somebody, Instant Message, e-mail, or check out the latest Hollywood trailer or some moronic reality show on YouTube video?

In short, you escape it for a while (at least you think you’re escaping); but you’re not. The original problem continues to manifest and nothing gets resolved. Unresolved feelings don’t simply go away; they become part of your survival mechanism, thereby aggravated, hence difficult to ignore. If those issues are ignored on a consistent basis, they fester like a wound that’s not allowed to heal. They begin to leak out anytime we’re reminded of them; and when you can’t get your fix on your gadget, you get overly offended, point fingers, become enraged, blame everything and everybody. You are as good as a ‘dead man walking’

Man’s Best Friend

dog walker

What happened to Dogs? How do we tell them that because of our stupidity, their roles in our lives have been replaced by gadgets? How do we introduce these new best friends to friends and family? Perhaps we don’t have to; after all, they are also part of the cycle.

But I have one last scare for you; I give you just a few months, there might be no YOU anymore if you continue at this rate; your obituary (and funeral) will be my confirmation. You can avoid this; the ball’s in your court!

While working on Windows computer, there are many situations occurring accidentally which you don’t want to happen. They may result in loss of data, messing up settings, losing your temper and make you scream Noooo! Here is a collection of such blunders you create on Windows by mistake.

Along with these funny but real life incidents happening while working on computer, compiled by Softonic, solutions to avoid such situations are also covered.

nooo face

1. Press Shift+Delete on an important file/document

shift delete file permanently

Shift+Delete bypasses Recycle bin and deletes a document permanently. When you want to clear up pile of files in a folder, which are probably junk, shift+delete is preferred erroneously. Some important files which were not meant to be deleted may also fall prey to this. And what all you can do it scream Noooo..!

Solution: Do not panic, you may use file recovery software like Recuva to get back deleted files.

2. Press Enter on Selecting Multiple Files

multiple file selection

We generally select multiple files either to move or copy them in different directory. But instead of pressing CTRL+C or CTRL+X to copy or cut, Enter key gets pressed accidentally.

Now, all those application files selected tend to start simultaneously freezing computer system. Killing them one by one will eat up few minutes and a test of your patience.

Solution: Just control your finger movements while operating on multiple selection.

3. Confirm Action to an Error Window

confirmation window

People generally don’t have time to read all the warnings and error text in windows. They either YES or NO and in most cases ACCEPT or OK to whatever comes. It’s all about trial and error, if clicking YES didn’t work, try NO on repeat.

Worst happens in some cases because of user ignorance. Software takes action completely opposite of what you expected.

For example: Word document asks for a confirmation to save your data before closing and you hurriedly click NO just because you want to exit.

It happens with me generally while working on Firefox browser. I sometimes click Close Tabs just to get rid of annoying window and all working sessions are lost.

Solution: Patience and careful reading before committing any action.

4. Clicking Restart after completing Installation

windows update restart

Windows often complete security updates or driver installation in background. After successful installation it asks for restarting computer to take changes effect. These changes, maybe important, aren’t essential at the moment of working.

Still, you may have to face a 5 minutes staring at computer screen to start as you cannot undo reboot action.

Solution: Avoid Computer Restart after updates.

5. Open a Heavy Program by Mistake

photoshop loading image

I keep important and frequently used applications pinned to windows taskbar. Sometimes, hurriedly, I happen to click on Photoshop instead of opening Windows Media player as they reside side by side.

Such applications takes some 120 seconds to load all resources and plugins before which you cannot even close. Doing so may result in “Application not responding” state.

6. Overwrite a File by mistake

replace existing file

Finished writing a project report of over 50 pages and saved a final copy. Suddenly move on to another document open which is unfinished and while closing, you respond to replace the existing file which is in fact a finished one. Sad, isn’t it?

Solution: When you are working on important document, do not respond to any popup without reading carefully.

7. Format the wrong Disk Partition

windows XP format

While formatting HDD partition for making space for new OS, I always doubt about the correct drive letter. Personally, I double check by quitting installation but you may end up cleaning up wrong partition.

Solution: It should not be difficult to recover data from freshly erased partition with recovery software. However, it is recommended to have backup using PC Cloning tools.

8. Overwrite Contents of Clipboard

Surprisingly, even today, Windows clipboard can hold one item at a time. If new content is copied, previous one gets deleted.

When you have selectively chosen photos from Memory card to copy into computer and before pasting it, you happen to copy some URL or any other file. Just imagine, all you efforts and time spent in choosing photos has gone invain.

Solution: Use Extended Clipboard manager which are capable to saving multiple text items, images and files at a time.

9. Print 10 Pages Color Document when you wanted only 1 Page

printer all pages

It generally happens while printing tickets. These tickets sometime includes instructions, manual, brochure and even some advertisements. When you just want a small portion (Ticket part) of whole document generated, we accidentally give command to print all.

Most of the time, it is not our fault but the printer defaults are set to print All and that too in color.

Solution: Double check settings before hitting PRINT button. Use services like PrinterFriendly to format pages for printing.

10. Forcing Shutdown with Unsaved open Documents

force Shutdown windows

Often, you are left with a question whether to force shut down windows without saving things or need a chance to save them. I agree there are some unnecessary programs sometimes running in background which has to be closed forcefully. Otherwise, it is recommended to check the application list before confirming and avoid moment to scream Noooo..!

Any other situation you can think of?
