Should I Upgrade to Windows 8 [Infographic]

This has been a debatable question since the launch of new upgrade to Microsoft Operating System. People ask me via emails and comments whether should I upgrade to Windows 8 or is it worth upgrading my OS? It isn’t easy for me to reply in one word- ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Simply because, the answer is different for each and everyone and they need explanation for that. So, I created a simple flow chart which would help you decide whether you should upgrade to Windows 8 or not?

Should I Upgrade to Windows 8

Feel free to embed this infographic on your website by copying the code below:

First ask yourself, Who are you? If you are a student or Home user – who just has few personal uses (as in if you have no technical work apart from browsing) and simply want to explore new ways of computing and be ahead of the world, you should definitely go for upgradation. I agree that initially, you will feel Windows 8 to be terribly confusing but with the time, you will get used to it.

Reason being the way you used to interact with Windows for all these years will change after upgrading to Windows 8!! It has no Start Menu option but has an awesome Start Screen. Metro style apps and features like fast boot may attract anyone at the first go.

[alert-note]Why You’ll Leave Windows 7 and Love Windows 8[/alert-note]

For enterprises and small businesses, it isn’t recommended. Windows 8 isn’t for an enterprise. Your employees may not get used to new ways of interacting easily, creating undue chaos. Moreover, the software platform you may be using for product development or service won’t give any different experience to the user than running them on Windows 7.

Why would you like to spend more money on a thing which won’t offer any substantial improvement in work and productivity?

Now, coming to the hard fact that not everyone will purchase a genuine copy of Windows 8.

During the promotional campaign, it was fine but considering the current Windows 8 price list, people who are convinced to upgrade will think of going for a pirated copy from the infamous Torrent networks.

So, if you are not ready for spending money on a new OS and don’t want to support piracy, don’t upgrade to Windows 8. You are not missing on something really great.

[alert-note]Difference Between Genuine And Pirated Windows 8 Activation[/alert-note]

Windows 8 may have sold 60 million copies but let me tell you that most of these were sold during pre-hype when the price was five times less than the current Windows 8 pricing. Also, there isn’t any report available from Microsoft about how many users have actually activated their license and are using it as the primary OS.

I hope I was able to clear a lot of doubts that were popping up in regard to the new Windows 8 upgrade.

In my personal opinion and view, Windows 8 gives you only more frustrations, inconveniences and messup, than any benefits. Also, microsoft’s worthless upgrade for-nothing attitude is visible in this upgradation.

1) The most wretched thing in Windows 8 I felt is the absence of START button, which was very very convenient place for a user. But it’s removed in 8 giving lot of frustration to users.
2) It’s sub-point of 1. i.e. absence of PROGRAMS menu. Ho….it’s so terrible. The user has to scrape through rightward using the task bar for find a single program item. Ofcourse it’s frustrating.
3) No direct desktop. Another curse of Windows 8. you lack access to your desktop directly. For that also you have to select the DESKTOP icon through above scraping method.
4) No shutdown, No restart, ….All these are frustrating and and subsidiary point of first point
5) No RUN menu. It’s very important and useful to users, which was present in WIndowsXP. But it’s removed in Win7, 8 etc
6) Find/Serch options are also removed in Win7/8 etc

So, Microsoft is doing the upgradations ignoring totally the user-side and aiming users’ frustrations. No any apparent benefit or congenialness be found in their stupid upgradings. So all, reasonable people should ignore these Microsoft Stupids…!

    Hi Christo,

    1. For a starter, initial days are confusing without Start button but I feel Start screen too satisfies the need. But then there is a work aroud to bring Start Menu on Windows 8- https://www.blogsolute.com/bring-start-menu-back-to-windows-8/25353/

    2. Just start typing the letters of programs you want.. no need to scroll through the whole screen.

    3. Looks like Metro screen is a real trouble for you. You can skip to Desktop directly- https://www.blogsolute.com/bypass-metro-screen-windows-8/25371/

    4. Yes, I somehow agree to this point that those buttons are hidden. They should have been placed at obvious places,

    5. Run menu isn’t there? WIN+R still works

    6. Search has been made more awesome in Windows 8. One search button for everything. Just move mouse pointer to right bottom and there you see a magnify glass icon in charms bar.

If Microsoft would haven’t changed anything in Windows 8, people still would have said what’s different here? When it is changed, we still have problem.

I agree that it will take time to get used to it but then you are getting Fast boot, better service management and awesome Metro apps. I have moved completely 🙂
