Windows 8 Metro File Explorer App With SkyDrive & Bing Live Wallpaper
A file explorer is always a must have or Essential part of any Operating System, be it Android or Windows. From time to time we have covered many File Explorers to increase your work productivity and saving vital time. With Windows 8 file explorer you may have all the basic features to take care of but the real fun comes with a Modern explorer. A modern file explorer is what I sincerely expected to be inbuilt in Windows 8.

Understanding Metro Commander App Interface
Metro Commander App is dual panned i.e you can operate on two locations at a single time. How is this helpful? Well, now you can open any two desired locations side by side and set file transfer or copy directly by dragging files from one location to other. This is all about the file display. To perform other operations, right click on any blank location within the app.

Starting from the top left corner initially you have only C Drive added but you can add more drives with available option. The default libraries are present with SkyDrive option. The last section consists your favorite marked locations. Once you mark a location as favorite, it will start appearing on this section. You can also pin locations to Start Screen, this options gives you the choice to directly navigate to your favorite folder from Windows 8 Start Screen.

Selecting particular files is also easy and can be done by right clicking on desired files, then you can perform bulk operations on them like moving, coping, deleting etc. You can also create new folders and files using Metro Commander.
Setting up Metro Commander App
Before using Metro Commander you should first visit the settings brought up from Windows 8 Charms bar. You need to enable the Drag & Drop option to be able to drop files from one section to other. This app is also very helpful to touch screen users. There are few themes but you may have to buy them, so its better to let them be unless you are curious to apply some. There are few predefined backgrounds that you can apply but i would suggest you to apply Bing Live wallpaper as it will automatically rotate everyday.
Working with Metro Commander
To upload files directly on SkyDrive open it on one panel and drag files from the other panel to it. Files will be instantly uploaded. Now the confusion that might surround you is that how will you perform the operations to a single panel ? as the operations are common to both the panel. The answer simple, first select the panel by clicking on the location. You will see the change in color once it is selected. you can refer the above image for instance.

On the selected right panel I have selected 5 images which I want to upload to SkyDrive. Now the only thing I need to do is drag the files from right to left panel. That’s it, files uploaded.
The best thing from an user point of view is that when you select an image, its previewed at background. Otherwise you can click on the image to see it full screen or have a slideshow. Metro Commander also has support for playing music files. So there is no need to go anywhere else. From one place you can do almost anything. You can also search files within the app, that will be a better thing to do rather using default Windows 8 search. You can select files and share them with various apps or mail images directly. I would be happy to see Facebook sharing integrated for images atleast.

Ads are displayed on top right corner and you have to upgrade to remove them. In my opinion that’s not a big deal at all, as it doesn’t hamper user experience anyhow. To sum up Metro Commander is a great app which should be tried atleast once by any Windows 8 user.
